- 1Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV won't be coming to the Indian market
- 2It will feature LED headlamps, LED DRLs, charging ports, and more
- 3It will be offered with two engine options: petrol and diesel
Toyota showcased the Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV Concept for the Indonesian market a few months ago at an event. It has been officially confirmed that the model will go on sale starting next year. This SUV is built on the IMV platform, which also underpins models like the Innova Crysta and Fortuner.
Interestingly, the concept's bodyshell wasn’t designed by Toyota. Instead, the Hilux Rangga SUV concept was developed by an aftermarket coachbuilder called New Armada. However, the final production version will be sold under the Toyota name. Let’s dive deeper into details about the upcoming Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV, including its exterior design, engine options, and more.
Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV concept design vs final version
The showcased Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV concept has a bold, boxy design. The front features a striking grille paired with square-shaped headlamps, highlighting its face. The large bonnet adds to its dashing look. From the side, the SUV gets a long body and roof rails, enhancing its rugged vibe.
However, when the Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV enters the market, it is expected to have slight changes compared to its concept version. Despite these adjustments, the overall design is likely to retain its bold and boxy character. The Hilux Rangga people mover is based on the Toyota HiLux Champ, a pick-up vehicle. It will be offered in a 7-seater configuration.

What to expect from Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV features
The Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV focuses on being a robust people mover, designed to tackle tough terrains rather than stressing over feature-loaded offerings. Still, it gets a decent range of features, including LED headlights with LED DRLs, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, charging ports, all four power windows, adjustable driver seat, twin cup holders, dual airbags, reverse parking camera, ABS, and reverse parking sensors, among others.
Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV engine options
The Toyota Hilux Rangga engine options will include a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. For those who prefer diesel, there will also be a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine, available with either a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. It won’t feature a 4X4 setup; instead, it will come with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) drivetrain.
While it takes design inspiration from the pickup truck version, the SUV showcases a fresh and distinct avatar. Its launch in the Indonesian market has been confirmed, but sadly, it won’t be available in India. This raises an interesting question—would Indian buyers consider a vehicle like this? And do we also need a bold people mover like this? That decision is up to your personal opinion.
