Outline

We are half past 2024 already and yet the craze for CNG cars has not depleted among new customers. Despite the EV push and new electric cars launching at affordable prices, the CNG cars remain in high demand. With that said, if you are also planning on buying a CNG car this year, make sure to read our detailed list of the upcoming CNG cars in India below.

1. Hyundai Venue CNG (Dual-Cylinder)

Hyundai Venue Knight Edition

Hyundai India recently homologated a new technology named ‘Hy-CNG Duo’. It is a brand-new dual-cylinder CNG technology that is inspired by Tata’s dual-cylinder CNG models. With it, Hyundai will replace its single-cylinder CNG module and introduce newer models like the Venue itself, in the coming future. The dual-cylinder helps in creating a usable boot space, as well as increasing the CNG range with the added capacity. Hyundai currently sells the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Exter cars with the CNG technology. However, Venue is a popular model in the compact SUV segment, and addition of CNG will yield better sales. We assume that the Venue CNG could debut later this year.

2. Maruti Swift S-CNG

Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG

Maruti launched the fourth generation of Swift in India last month. The new model is introduced with a brand new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-series petrol engine. While there are rumours online suggesting that it’ll get a strong hybrid in the coming years, the CNG powertrain is expected to debut sooner. Likely to be badged ‘Swift S-CNG’, it is expected to debut around the upcoming festive season. The efficiency of the Swift CNG will be higher than its outgoing model, all thanks to the Z12E engine. The expected pricing of the CNG variants will be Rs 90,000-95,000 more than the ICE versions.

3. Tata Nexon iCNG

Tata Nexon iCNG Dual Cylinder

Tata showcased its most popular model Nexon with a dual-cylinder CNG tech at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year. Badged Nexon iCNG, this upcoming Tata car attracted a lot of attention during the automotive expo. Tata has also revealed that it’ll get the same 1.2-litre turbo engine as the regular Nexon, but with the added CNG hybrid fuel. Also, there is a possibility that it’ll be offered with an AMT gearbox as well. Tata Tiago and Tigor are already available with CNG AMT versions and the Nexon could also be benefited with the same. We expect that the Nexon CNG will debut by November 2024. Its pricing will be at least Rs 90,000 more expensive than the petrol variants.

4. New-Gen Maruti Dzire CNG

Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG

A model that is yet to be launched, is the upcoming generation of the Maruti Dzire. Identical to the new Swift, the Dzire is expected to debut by September in India. It is one of the best-selling cars and the CNG variants of the current model are toppers. Hence, the launch of the CNG versions on the new-gen Dzire are imminent. However, similar to the Swift, the new-gen Dzire will first launch with the Z12E petrol engine, and later on the CNG variants could be added. As per our assumption, the Dzire CNG could debut by November 2024. The pricing of it will be higher by up to Rs 90,000, as compared to the petrol variants.
