With the launch of the all-electric Kia EV9 SUV just around the corner, Kia is set to expand its portfolio of electric vehicles in India. Kia will soon have six cars on offer in the country — Sonet, Seltos, Carens, Carnival, EV6, and EV9. Here are top 5 things to know ahead of Kia EV9 launch in India.

Platform and dimensions

The EV9 is Kia’s fully-electric full-size family SUV that made its global debut last year and has driven to the good books of editors around the globe. The EV9 is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform (Electric Global Modular Platform), which also underpins cars such as Kia EV6 and Ioniq 5. For a quick reference, the Kia EV9 dimensions are 5,010mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,755mm in height while the wheelbase is measured at 3,100mm. The GT Line is 5mm longer and 25mm taller. 

Kia EV9 range, battery, and motors

The Kia EV9 comes with two powertrain options — a rear-wheel drive powertrain with an electric motor producing 204PS and 350Nm of torque, and an all-wheel drive powertrain with two electric motors generating 385PS and 700Nm of peak torque. Both the powertrains get a 99.8kWh battery. The rear-wheel drive variants get a claimed range of 501 kilometres and the all-wheel drive variants get a claimed range of 454 kilometres. It is yet to be seen if both the powertrain options make it to our market or not.

Quirky design

The EV9 has a quirky design, to say the least. It features an edgy, boxy and futuristic styling on the outside, flanked by weirdly-shaped headlights and tail lights. The door handles are flushed into the panels and the wheels feature a four-spoke design. Moreover, due to the purpose-built platform underpinning the EV, it boasts of a long wheelbase and short overhangs, ensuring a large and spacious cabin.

Interior and features

On the features front, the global variants of the Kia EV9 have heating and ventilation functions in both first and second-row seats. Other Kia EV9 features include a three-zone automatic climate control, extendable centre console, stylish comfy-looking headrests, and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system. It also gets ambient lighting, an illuminated steering wheel, a wide infotainment screen that lets you do a lot of stuff, and a key with which you can move the car forwards and backwards while you aren’t even in the car.

Kia EV9 launch in India

Kia is going to launch the EV9 in India on October 3, 2024. It will be launched alongside the new Kia Carnival, which was recently spotted at the Delhi airport.
