The Indian automotive market is dominated by SUVs today. Sedans are slowly disappearing from the portfolios of automakers, and there are fresh body styles such as the coupe SUV coming in. The popularity of SUVs is not restricted to India but is a global phenomena, with even legacy carmakers made to roll out their versions of an ‘SUV’. We aren’t here to discuss these cars here at the moment though. Getting back to the point, here’s a list of the top 10 best selling SUVs in India.

Hyundai Creta
It should not be surprising to see the Hyundai Creta in the first place, with Hyundai selling around 99,256 units of the SUV over the last 6 months. The number of Hyundai Cretas sold every month is greater than the total monthly sales of quite a few mass market manufacturers.
Tata Punch
Tata Punch slips down to the second spot in the best-selling SUV list. Whether or not it should be called an SUV is a very debatable topic though. Tata Motors sold 94,888 units of the Punch over the last 6 months, averaging at almost 15,800 units a month. While the sales are still impressive, the Punch has seen a sales slump over the past few months whereas the Creta has improved.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Averaging at around 15,640 units monthly, Maruti Suzuki Brezza sales aren’t far behind those of the Punch. The Brezza comes with a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine, generating 102hp and 137Nm of torque. There’s also the option of a factory-fitted CNG, further widening the appeal of this SUV.
Mahindra Scorpio
The Scorpio has been Mahindra’s best-selling vehicle consistently over the past few months, selling 81,150 units in the last 6 months itself. This includes the sale of both Mahindra Scorpio Classic as well as Mahindra Scorpio N. What’s interesting is the fact that Mahindra sells more diesel Scorpios than petrol ones.
Tata Nexon
The Nexon ranks ahead of the Fronx, selling 79,815 units in the last 6 months. The Tata Nexon is available in a variety of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, electric, and now CNG too! It is, in fact, the first passenger car in India to get a turbocharged-petrol engine fitted with a CNG kit.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is not just a better-looking Baleno. It proves to be an appealing package that bundles practicality, driveability, as well as a great design. MSIL has been able to sell 78,175 units of the Fronx over the last 6 months, averaging at roughly 13,029 units a month.

Hyundai Venue
Hyundai sold 58,729 units of the Venue in the last 6 months, translating to an average of about 9,788 units a month. Its sister car, the Kia Sonet, also makes it to this list just behind the Venue, though there’s not much difference in the number of units sold.
Kia Sonet
The Sonet remains the most selling Kia car in India, with 58,637 units sold in the last 6 months. Kia sold 9,255 units of the Sonet last month, contributing to almost half of its total sales in India. The Sonet is offered in multiple powertrain and variant options with plenty of interior and exterior themes to choose from.
