However, some cars outshine their competitors by a substantial margin and make it to the top of the sales chart. Here is a list of the top 10 best-selling cars in India. Evidently, the list is dominated by Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Maruti Suzuki’s hot-selling MPV, the Ertiga, garnered over a lakh sales for MSIL over the past 6 months. The Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine, generating 102hp and 137Nm of torque. There’s an option of a factory-fitted CNG kit too. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti Suzuki just gave the Swift a generational update earlier this year. MSIL sold 99,203 units of the Swift over the last 6 months, claiming the second spot in the list of best-selling cars in India. The Swift is now powered by a 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder petrol engine, generating 80hp of power and 111.7Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki Swift price ranges between Rs 6.49 Lakh and Rs 9.59 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Hyundai Creta
Hyundai’s star performer, Hyundai Creta, reserves the third spot in the list of India’s top selling cars. This compact SUV comes with a variety of engine & transmission options — 1.5-litre petrol with 6-speed MT or CVT, 1.5-litre diesel with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with 7-speed DCT — and is generously loaded with features, which make it a great package. Hyundai Creta price ranges from Rs 10.99 Lakh to Rs 20.14 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Tata Punch
Tata Punch falls down to the fourth spot in the list of car sales in the last 6 months. Tata offers a wide range of powertrain options for the Punch — petrol, petrol with CNG, and electric. This makes the Punch appealing to a huge segment of buyers. Moreover, the Tata Punch is affordable, starting at just Rs 6.12 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Its SUV-like stance and 5-star safety rating add to the appeal.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Maruti Brezza is the fifth highest-selling car in India, clocking 93,111 units over the past 6 months. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza gets the same engine that is also offered on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. There’s an option for a factory-fitted CNG kit as well. The Brezza is priced between Rs 8.34 Lakh and Rs 14.14 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the Wagon R has always managed to find a spot on the list of best-selling cars for as long as one can recall. Maruti Suzuki sold 88,184 units of the Wagon R over the past 6 months, averaging at 14,697 units a month. The Maruti Wagon R is priced between Rs 5.54 Lakh and Rs 7.20 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Mahindra Scorpio
The Scorpio has been Mahindra’s best-selling vehicle consistently over the past few months, selling 82,163 units in the last 6 months itself. This includes the sale of both Mahindra Scorpio Classic as well as Mahindra Scorpio N. What’s interesting is the fact that Mahindra sells more diesel Scorpios than petrol ones. The Scorpio Classic is priced between Rs 13.62 Lakh and Rs 17.42 Lakh, while the Scorpio N price ranges from Rs 13.85 Lakh to Rs 24.54 Lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is an all-rounder hatchback, and claims the eighth spot on the list of best-selling cars in India. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 79,905 units of the Baleno, while Toyota could only sell 25,617 units of the Glanza — a badge-engineered version of the Baleno — during the same period. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno price ranges from Rs 6.66 Lakh to Rs 9.83 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has taken over the Tata Nexon’s spot in the list of best selling cars in India, selling 75,974 units over the last 6 months. The Fronx gets five options for the powertrain — a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT, a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit paired to a 5-speed MT, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx price ranges between Rs 7.51 lakh and Rs 12.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon makes it to the list of top best-selling cars in India in the last 6 months, clocking 75,943 units. The primary reason behind the Nexon making it to the list was the arrival of the new Dzire which led to the drop in sales of the outgoing Dzire. The Tata Nexon is offered with a range of powertrain options, including EVs, all of which combined result in an impressive sales figure.
