Tesla Model Y L launched in China — India bound?

Tesla has officially unveiled the Model Y L in China, introducing the six-seater pure-electric SUV at a starting price of 339,000 yuan (approx. USD 47,120). Deliveries are set to begin in September. Read the story to know more about the 2025 Tesla Model Y L and its expected India launch details. 

Exterior design and dimensions 

The Model Y L brings a refreshed design with subtle but noticeable changes. The roofline has been reworked for a sleeker profile, while the rear spoiler has been redesigned for a sportier stance. These refinements contribute to improved aerodynamics, giving the SUV a drag coefficient of 0.216. The new Model Y L stands out with its larger footprint. It measures 4976 mm in length, 1920 mm in width, and 1668 mm in height, supported by a 3040 mm wheelbase, positioning it as a more spacious option compared to the standard Model Y.

Interior and features

Inside, Tesla has upgraded the SUV with a new 16-inch central touchscreen. The wireless charging pad now supports dual fast charging at 50W and 30W, ensuring convenience for front passengers. The audio system has also been enhanced, featuring a central console speaker and two additional top-mounted speakers for immersive sound quality. Passengers in the second and third rows get individual charging ports, adding to the practicality of the cabin.

Safety and practicality

The Model Y L is fitted with three-row airbags, offering an extensive protection area of 3.9 meters, which covers more than 95% of the SUV’s longitudinal interior space, boosting overall passenger safety. Tesla has emphasized practicality with a maximum cargo volume of 2539 liters. The SUV can carry two 24-inch and one 20-inch suitcase in standard mode, while folding the third-row seats expands the capacity to fit four 28-inch and two 20-inch suitcases.

Performance and range

The Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The front motor produces 142 kW (190PS), while the rear motor delivers 198 kW (266PS), enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.5 seconds. It packs an 82 kWh ternary lithium battery with a CLTC-rated range of 751 km, coupled with impressive efficiency of 12.8 kWh/100 km.

Coming to the Tesla Model Y L India launch, there is no offcial word about the same from Tesla. However, given that the Model Y is currently the only model on sale in India, the long-wheelbase Model Y could be the perfect extension to the Model Y range in India.
