Tata Motors launched the Tata Curvv.ev last week, along with key details about the upcoming ICE Tata Curvv, which Tata has confirmed will be launched with two petrol and a diesel engine option. There might be more in store, as Tata has hinted that there is a possibility of a CNG version of the Tata Curvv arriving in the future. Here’s what we know so far.
Tata Curvv CNG
As per reports, Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, commented that a CNG version of the recently launched Tata Curvv.ev is under active consideration. While there is no certainty about such a product yet, the Curvv’s design is capable of donning a CNG powertrain, and Tata is exploring the possibility of launching it sometime in the future. Tata also showcased the Tata Nexon CNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, which is expected to be launched in India anytime soon.
Both the Nexon CNG and the Curvv CNG are likely to get the same powertrain. This will most likely be the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol engine as the new 1.2-litre Hyperion engine comes with direct fuel injection, which is a fairly newly-adopted technology in mass market cars and it might take a while for the engine to be introduced with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Furthermore, the CNG variants of the Curvv and the Nexon might see a 10-15% drop in power, as seen on earlier Tata cars that got a CNG option. The Nexon will also be the first turbo-petrol car in India to feature a factory-CNG option, along with dual-tanks.
