Skoda Kylaq – What is it?

The Kylaq is Skoda’s upcoming car for India that will enter the highly-competitive sub-compact SUV segment. Being developed as part of the INDIA 2.5 programme, the Kylaq will be underpinned by Skoda-VW’s MQB-A0-IN platform. It will go against the likes of popular cars such as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO

Kylaq design

Skoda India had given us a glimpse of what the Kylaq would look like, though we are yet to see complete images of the car. From what we could see yet, the Skoda Kylaq will feature a split LED headlight design, with the LED DRLs sitting atop the headlight clusters connected to Skoda’s signature radiator grille. The rear will feature LED lights as well, complemented by SKODA lettering on the boot lid, akin to the Skoda Kushaq.

Skoda Kylaq engine and transmission options

We expect the Kylaq to be powered by the 1.0-litre TSI engine that is seen on the INDIA 2.0 cars, namely, Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Virtus. The Kylaq will also get the option of a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque convertor. It is unlikely that the bigger 1.5-litre TSI will feature on the Kylaq, though Skoda has not yet confirmed this.

The Skoda Kylaq is expected to be priced starting from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). While Skoda will unveil the Kylaq on November 6, 2024, the launch of the same is slated for next year. We would not get to see Volkswagen’s version of the same anytime soon; here’s why. Stay tuned to CARS24 New Cars for latest updates!
