Outline

Amid plummeting sales and market share, Renault India seems to be putting its hands everywhere possible to make the most out of the existing resources, before the mid-term future plan with Nissan comes into action. With the Duster and Bigster-based SUVs witnessing delays, Renault is relying on its existing range of products to rise up again. In this article, we share details about the upcoming Renault Kiger EV based on the information available.

Renault Kiger EV incoming

As per a recent report, Renault is readying the Kiger EV for markets including India, South America and South Africa. Needless to say, Renault will use its Indian manufacturing facility as an export hub for global emerging markets. Sources reveal that the Renault Kiger EV production is set to begin in the second half of 2026, with launch taking place in 2027. We are still a good two years away from the said launch timeline, and with the pace the EV space is growing, it’s hard to find the Kiger EV’s relevance.

One highlight about the Kiger EV is going to be its EV-specific platform. The Kiger EV will sit on a dedicated EV platform and not on an ICE-derived platform. Hence, it is safe to assume benefits in terms of extended wheelbase and frontal storage along with better space management. Additionally, sources also reveal that Renault India plans to source batteries locally for both the Kiger EV and Triber EV, in order to keep costs competitive.

Renault Kiger facelift

As we mentioned earlier, the return of legacy models like the Duster will take some time to hit the Indian market. In order to stay afloat, Renault India plans to heavily update the Kiger sub-compact SUV and Triber MPV with their respective facelifts. We recently saw the launch of the Nissan Magnite facelift, which happens to be the Japanese cousin of the Kiger. While the Magnite facelift brought small changes, we expect the Kiger facelift to offer more distinctive design and feature updates, and similarly for the Triber facelift as well. Expect no changes on the engine and gearbox options offered with the Kiger. Renault India is likely to launch the Kiger facelift sometime this year along with the launch of the Triber facelift as well.

If you are looking to buy a Renault car under a budget, you can consider options from a range of used Renault cars in India that promise a hassle-free ownership experience at unbeatable prices.
