Just weeks after showcasing the Mercedes CLA Concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi, Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the next generation Mercedes-Benz CLA. The upcoming sedan has been revealed in petrol-hybrid and electric versions, both based on the same platform. Here are more details about the next gen Mercedes-Benz CLA. 

2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 

The CLA is the first of Mercedes’ next generation cars that will share the same platform and design cues at large for both ICE and electric-powered vehicles. This move has arisen as a result of current Mercedes-Benz electric cars bringing in low sales volumes and not being received well. The carmaker aims to narrow the gap between ICE and EV models, keeping in mind customer perceptions as well as cost savings. 

New Mercedes-Benz CLA specifications

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA will be offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations for the electric versions, and front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive for the hybrid versions. The new CLA EV also gets a two-speed gearbox. Battery sizes include an 85kWh nickel-managanese-cobalt pack that will be made available initially, followed by the option for a 58kWh lithium-iron-phosphate pack. The CLA ICE gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is paired to a 27PS motor and a 1.3kWh battery pack.

Upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA design and styling

The production-spec car carries a lot of elements from the concept car. It gets connected light bars at both ends, lots of Mercedes’ three-pointed star on the front grille, and a smooth-flowing silhouette to reduce drag.

Mercedes-Benz CLA interior 

Physical controls have vanished from the cabin and have been replaced by multiple touchscreens. There’s ambient lighting at all places and seats are finished in Alcantara and leatherette. The boot space is rated at 405 litres. Exact feature lists are yet to be revealed.

2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA launch timeline

Mercedes will first launch the new Mercedes-Benz CLA EV, followed by the Mercedes-Benz CLA hybrid a few months later. The CLA EV will be launched around October 2025 and will make its global debut in Europe. India launch is expected to take place by the end of this year or earlier next year.
