Next-gen Jeep Compass teased ahead of global debut — India bound?

Jeep has officially teased the upcoming next-gen Compass SUV ahead of its global debut. The carmaker has also commenced new-gen Jeep Compass production in Melfi, Italy that will be the production hub for the European market. Read on to know more about the all-new Jeep Compass.

New-gen Jeep Compass teased

While Jeep had shared the initial sketch teaser of the upcoming SUV back in 2024, we have now received fresh images teasing the front profile and rear tail light design of the new-gen Jeep Compass. Based on the shared images, one can make out the design language, which will continue to be boxy and muscular like the current Compass SUV. At the front, it will get rectangular LED headlights, flanked by the signature 7-slot grille, which this time around is likely to get segmented illumination, as seen in the teaser image.

The previous sketch image of the new-gen Jeep Compass gave us a glimpse of its side profile, which retains the squared-off wheel arches—a signature design element of modern-day Jeep SUVs. Other details around the side profile of the SUV could include flared wheel arches with body cladding, chunky roof rails, machined alloy wheels and Compass badging on the front doors. At the rear, the teaser image from Jeep reveals the design of the LED tail light that incorporates a wrap-around unit and LED elements.

New Jeep Compass to go electric

Since the new-gen Jeep Compass will sit on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, it will support multiple powertrain options, including all-electric. We will get to see a mix of mild-hybrid, plug-in-hybrid and fully electric drivetrain options with the new Compass and yes, it will offer the option of all-wheel-drive, featuring an electric rear axle. Unlike before, the new-gen Compass is unlikely to come with a diesel engine, which is infact the only engine option available with the India-spec Jeep Compass.

Will it come to India?

Speaking of India and the Jeep Compass, the American mini SUV has been on sale in the Indian market since 2017 and only received one significant mid-lifecycle facelift in 2021. Reports suggest that Jeep has no plans to introduce the new-gen Compass to the Indian market, due to the STLA Medium platform that failed to justify its commercial viability amid low sales projections in the segment. The Jeep Compass is currently only available with the 2.0-litre diesel engine and is likely to remain on sale until 2026. With new Compass replacement in sight, Jeep is shifting its focus to a new SUV for the Indian market, which will sit on Citroen’s Common Modular Platform (CMP).
