New Kia Tasman pick-up truck revealed at the Jeddah Motor Show
- 1To get both petrol and diesel engine options
- 2Looks good on the inside, not-so-good on the outside
- 3Gets a triple screen setup, ADAS, optional 8-speaker sound system
Kia has taken the wraps off its first-ever pickup truck, the Kia Tasman, at the Jeddah International Motor Show. The automaker has chosen to go with an unconventional design approach with the Tasman, and while we appreciate the bold move, we’re not quite convinced if we like the outcome just yet. Anyway, here’s more about the new Kia Tasman pickup truck.
2025 Kia Tasman truck
The Tasman has the body style of a classic pickup truck, but the designers have followed a modern styling approach for the panels and the interior. Set to be first launched at its home base in South Korea in the first half of 2025, the Tasman will be available with a diesel and a petrol unit, depending on the market. There will, of course, be multiple options and accessories available with it.
Design and styling
We’ve spoken about the design in a brief manner. Expanding the same thoughts, the Tasman sort of seems to converge curves with the conventional boxy shape of a pickup truck. There are very pronounced wheel arches, hood, and door panels, with the iconic tiger nose grille at the front end. The rear gets the embossed KIA lettering that was also visible in the teaser. The rear lights look tiny in proportion. Tyre sizes include 17-inches and 18-inches. All-in-all, the design seems like a jigsaw puzzle with some pieces fitted in the right manner while some forced in the wrong way.

Powertrain options
Built on a ladder-on-frame chassis, the Tasman will be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains, depending on the market. Both 2WD as well as 4WD configurations will also be offered, though the choices will be restricted according to trim levels and engine options.
Fuel | Diesel | Petrol |
Engine | 2.2-litre diesel | 2.5-litre turbo-petrol |
Transmissions | 6MT, 8AT | 8AT |
Max power | 210PS | 281PS |
Peak torque | 441Nm | 421Nm |
0-100kmph time | 10.4 seconds | 8.5 seconds |
Top speed | 185kmph | 185kmph |
Interior and features
The cabin of the Tasman looks welcoming, and there’s a much better job done on the inside than the outside. There’s a minimal design language followed for the interior, and while many automakers make things look boring while following the approach, Kia has added some rather interesting touches. There’s a chunky steering wheel, honeycomb-shaped air-con vents, a triple screen layout featuring two 12.3-inch screens and a 5-inch unit, lots of storage spaces, ADAS functionalities, and more. There’s a fresh design for the door handles and some physical switches & buttons, both of which we gladly approve. We are quite happy with how the interior looks, credit where it’s due.

Kia shall first launch the Tasman truck in South Korea in the first half of 2025. Subsequently, it’ll be introduced in Australia, Africa, and the Middle East.
