New Ferrari 296 Speciale revealed globally — Here’s what’s different from the GTB
- 1Weighs 60 kilograms lighter than the 296 GTB
- 2Extra boost function provides 13PS of additional power on demand
- 3Gets active rear wings with three height settings
The peeps from Maranello have another new supercar for us, and this one’s based on the Ferrari 296. It also happens to be the most powerful version in the 296 lineup of road-legal cars. Here’s everything that we know about the new Ferrari 296 Speciale from its global premiere that took place today, along with key differentiators from the 296 GTB.
2025 Ferrari 296 Speciale

‘296’ represents the broad engine specifications of the 296 lineup. The ‘29’ stands for 2.9-litre displacement, and the ‘6’ indicates the number of cylinders. ‘VS’ is short for Versione Speciale — Italian speak for Special Version. Now that we have that out of the way, here’s what the 296 Speciale, erstwhile the 296 VS, actually packs in.
Ferrari 296 Speciale powertrain specs
Powering the Ferrari 296 VS is the same ~3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a plug-in-hybrid electric motor, but the system output has been bumped up to a maximum of 880PS. This makes it the most powerful rear wheel drive Ferrari production car in the world.
Ferrari 296 Speciale top speed and acceleration

Compared to the Ferrari 296 GTB, the 296 VS is claimed to be 0.1 seconds faster at a 0-100kmph run, capable of doing the run in just 2.8 seconds. Top speed is in the neighbourhood of 330kmph.

Ferrari 296 VS design
Ferrari has revealed both fixed top and hard top convertible versions of the 296 Speciale, the latter called the Ferrari 296 Speciale Spider. The car is based on the regular 296 but takes inspiration from the 296 GT3 and 296 Challenge racing cars. The Speciale gets Ferrari FXX-K-like winglets at the rear for added downforce, a revised front splitter, and air intakes on the bonnet, which are not seen on the GTB.
Ferrari 296 VS interior and features

The interior has been stripped down to reduce weight. By the way, the car weighs a good 60kg lighter than the GTB. The door panels are carbon fibre, so are some other elements. The car still gets a passenger screen in addition to the digital driver’s display.
