The eighth-generation of the BMW 5 Series offers an exhilarating combination of driving dynamics and luxury. It is set to go head on against the soon-to-be-launched updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB. Here are top 5 things to know about the eighth-generation 2024 BMW 5 Series launched in India.
2024 BMW 5 Series Powertrain
We aren’t as lucky as the Germans or the Americans in this aspect as we don’t get to choose from multiple powertrains for the BMW 5 Series LWB. But, who’s complaining, it’s a 5 Series after all. The BMW 5 Series will be offered in a single 530Li M Sport LWB trim, with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 48-Volt electric motor, initially. This engine generates an output of 258hp and a peak torque of 400Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Triple digit speed appear in 6.5 seconds and it has a top speed of 250kph. There might be a diesel option further down the line, but we still await confirmation on that front.
New BMW 5 Series LWB Dimensions
It’s a first that BMW is launching the long wheelbase version of the 5 Series in the country. Being the long wheelbase version, this BMW measures 5,175mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,520mm in height, which is 212mm longer, 32mm wider, and 41mm taller than the outgoing BMW 5 Series. The wheelbase is 130mm longer too, now measuring 3,105mm.

BMW 5 Series Design
The new BMW 5 Series gets an illuminated kidney grille, just like the one on the BMW 7 Series. It gets sharp design cues and looks more aggressive than the outgoing 5 Series. The headlights and tail lights get a sleek and angular design, complimenting the rest of the car. While the current design language that is being followed by BMW is quite polarising, the new 5 Series does look impressive in the flesh. There’s a large number ‘5’ embossed on the c-pillar, which screams that you’re travelling in a 5 Series, just in case people hadn’t already noticed.
BMW 5 Series Features
On the inside, the new BMW 5 Series gets almost everything you could ask for in a luxury sedan. There’s a 14.9-inch floating infotainment screen that has connected tech like Geo-fencing, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.3-inch driver's display, 655-Watt 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, wireless chargers both on the front and the back, ambient lighting and what not. At the front, there’s a joystick to control each individual air-con vent, and a touch-sensitive control for the fan speed too! The crystal bits on the inside look immaculate. And, all the leather used is 100% vegan.
