MG Windsor sales cross 20,000 mark — What makes it special?
- 1MG Windsor EV sales cross 20,000 mark within 6 months from launch
- 275% of MG Motor India sales come from electric vehicles
- 3MG Windsor EV can be had with and without BaaS program
The MG Windsor EV has witnessed a runaway success like no other EV in the Indian market. The carmaker has managed to sell over 20,000 Windsor EVs in the Indian market since its launch, which took place in late-2024. The Windsor EV is currently the best-selling EV in the Indian market, based on the monthly sales data. In this article, we explore the top 5 things that make it so special.
Battery-as-a-platform (BaaS package)
With a penetration of around 15% in total sales, the BaaS platform has surely not picked up to the level MG anticipated. But it played a crucial role in spreading the word and building the curiosity around the Windsor EV. Through the BaaS program, MG also managed to keep the starting price under Rs 10 lakh—a big feat to achieve for a C-segment EV—even though the actual price is considerably higher. Hence it is safe to say that the BaaS platform has turned out to be more of a marketing program than a customer program.

Attractive price, without BaaS too
Even if we keep the BaaS pricing aside, at Rs 13.99 lakh, the Windsor EV offers attractive value. In comparison to the Nexon EV, the Windsor EV comes out as a far bigger car that has its own share of bragging rights. Furthermore, the top variant of the Windsor EV, priced at Rs 15.99 lakh, also manages to undercut the Nexon EV, despite offering similar range to the Tata’s offering.

Super spacious
Thanks to its dedicated skateboard EV platform, the Windsor EV manages to cram in 2700mm worth of wheelbase, thereby liberating a generous amount of space on the inside. The biggest highlight of the Windsor’s interior is the rear seat adjustability—both recline and slide—that makes the overall experience a lot better than cars like the Nexon EV or the XUV400.
Feature loaded
On the features front, like every other MG car, the Windsor EV comes packed with a slew of features. A few of these features include a fixed glass roof, a floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, 9-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and a lot more. However, it misses out on advanced driving assistance systems.

Other perks
At the launch, MG Motor India left no stones unturned to grasp the prospective buyers by offering a slew of perks. The biggest one was the free public charging for one year that is now limited to just 1000 units for the eligible. Furthermore, the carmaker also announced assured buyback plans and lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, rounding off the complete ownership experience, which as per MG, is absolutely hassle free.
