MG Windsor EV unlimited km/year battery warranty explained

MG Motor India created tides in the Indian automotive industry with the launch of the new all-electric Windsor EV. Christened the new CUV in the market, it has a lot of interesting details other than its questionable bodystyle. In this article, we shed light on one of its most confusing aspects — MG Windsor EV unlimited km/year battery warranty.

MG Windsor EV battery warranty explained

At the launch, JSW MG Motor India announced to offer unlimited km/year warranty for the battery of the Windsor EV. Needless to say, such an announcement has been made for the first time in the Indian market and it surely puts the scepticism to rest, for the first owners at least. Yes, the unlimited km/year warranty offered for the Windsor EV battery is only valid for the first owners of the CUV. In case of the ownership transfer, the battery warranty will revert to the industry standard, which is 8 years or 1,60,000 km, whichever comes first.

Another question comes to mind after hearing the lucrative unlimited km/year warranty for the battery is how the carmaker would determine the battery fitness over the years. Suppose if someone has already driven the car for over 1,60,000 km in 5 years and not happy with the driving range, what parameters would determine whether the battery health is alright or demands a battery swap. Well, MG Motor India has not shared the said parameters that would determine the battery fitness over the years. We will share those details as and when we get our hands on the same.

Furthermore, while the battery falls under the unlimited km/year warranty, the warranty offered for other electronics is different. The motor falls under the standard 8 years/1,60,000 km warranty, the 12V battery warranty is valid for 1 year whereas the infotainment system commands a 3-year warranty. Furthermore, MG Motor India will also offer extended warranty packages for up to 5 years and unlimited kilometres, for electronics and components falling under the standard warranty.

MG Windsor EV battery, motor and range

The MG Windsor EV comes with a 38kWh lithium-ion battery pack with prismatic cells, which sits on a skateboard EV platform. The battery pack feeds power to a front-mounted single motor that has a claimed range of 331 kilometres. The permanent magnet synchronous electric motor produces 136PS of power and 200Nm of torque.
