Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara BNCAP crash test images have recently surfaced online. The images reveal the Grand Vitara being crash tested by Bharat NCAP and while the safety rating is yet to come out, we can make out a few key takeaways from the images. It is worth mentioning that Bharat NCAP has not released a safety rating for any Maruti Suzuki model and the Grand Vitara could be the first Maruti Suzuki to be tested by India’s own crash testing agency.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Bharat NCAP Crash Test
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has been crash tested by Bharat NCAP, as confirmed by the leaked images. The images reveal a Grand Vitara being crash tested with Bharat NCAP and ARAI stickers placed on the body. The images also confirm that Bharat NCAP has chosen the base variant of the SUV for the test.

The variant used in the frontal offset impact test and side impact test seems to be the Sigma or Delta, which happens to be the base variants in the Grand Vitara. However, the variant used in the side pole impact test seems to be the Zeta or Alpha, courtesy of the dual-tone alloy wheels, which are only offered in the top variants. The lower variants of the Grand Vitara come with dual airbags only whereas the top variants offer side thorax and curtain airbags too, as seen deployed in the side pole impact crash test.
Can The Grand Vitara Score 5 Stars In Bharat NCAP?
Based on the images that have surfaced online, the Grand Vitara seems to have taken the beating without much signs of damage. The A-pillars after the crash seem intact and so does the floorboard, from the outside of course. However, these indicators are not the only prerequisites for having a 5 star safety rating. The stability of the body shell and the support provided to the adult and child occupants are the primary points for having a fantastic safety rating score.

It is worth mentioning that the Grand Vitara shares its platform with the Vitara Brezza, which is now known as the Brezza. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza managed to score 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash test, making it the best-performing Maruti Suzuki model in the Global NCAP program. Taking into account the larger body and more safety features like 6 airbags, we can expect the Grand Vitara to score 4 or 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test. It would be interesting to see if the Grand Vitara manages to score 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test as it will help to demystify a lot of myths around the safety of Maruti Suzuki cars.
