Maruti Suzuki e Vitara — A set of many firsts for the brand
- 1First electric Suzuki car in the world
- 2To come with a Level-2 ADAS suite
- 3Sits on 18-inch aerodynamic wheels
Maruti Suzuki is the largest manufacturer of cars in India, selling the most number of machines every year. But, unlike most carmakers that have a few electric vehicles in their lineup, Maruti has had none; till now. Things are soon about to change with the new Maruti e Vitara India launch that will take place in the coming months. The car has already been revealed in its production-ready form at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025 that took place earlier this month. In this story, we discuss some notable firsts for Maruti Suzuki in India that have been introduced with the 2025 Maruti e Vitara.
First electric car in the world from the carmaker
The e Vitara is the first electric car in the world to come out of Maruti Suzuki’s factory. While the automaker did have hybrid offerings in the past, there was no fully-electric vehicle on sale yet. The Suzuki e Vitara will be exclusively manufactured at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat and will be sold both in India and exported to global markets from here.
Level-2 ADAS functionalities
While Maruti cars in India are infamous for their ‘unsafe’ cars, things are changing gradually with major breakthroughs such as a five-star safety rating for the new Maruti Dzire. Adding to this, the e Vitara will be the first Maruti car in India to be available with an ADAS suite. Some of the functionalities that will be offered include lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.
Connected screen setup on the dashboard
Like it or not, physical controls in cars are increasingly becoming replaced with touchscreens, and such is a necessity with a rising amount of technology being stuffed into these machines. The e Vitara will be the first Maruti car in India to come with a connected-screen setup for infotainment and instrumentation.
18-inch alloy wheels
Even when we take into consideration expensive Maruti Suzuki cars in India like the Kizashi and Grand Vitara that were on sale in the past, none of these cars came with 18-inch alloy wheels, something which will be made available on the e Vitara.
Multi-link rear suspension
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be the only Maruti currently on sale in India that will come with a multi-link independent rear suspension. Such a setup is seldom seen in this segment and is usually offered on more expensive cars and SUVs.
