Maruti Suzuki begins production at Kharkhoda plant

The Kharkhoda plant is Maruti Suzuki’s third manufacturing plant in Haryana, following the two plans in Gurgaon and Manesar, Haryana. The Kharkhoda plant is one of four manufacturing plants of Maruti Suzuki in India, with the third plant being the recently-acquired Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant. Before the Kharkhoda plant, Maruti Suzuki had an annual production capacity of around 2.35 million units across three plants – two in Haryana (Gurugram and Manesar) and the SMG.

Since the Kharkhoda plant has come into action, the carmaker is set to increase its annual production capacity. Projections suggest that the carmaker would double its production capacity—to 4 million units—by 2030-31 with an investment of about Rs 45,000 crore as it looks to regain a 50% market share, which has been plummeting for the past years amid rising competition from Hyundai and Tata Motors. The additional 2 million capacity over the current capacity will be split between the Kharkhoda plant and the upcoming plant in Gujarat. The Kharkhoda plant, which is currently dishing out 2,50,000 units annually in the first phase, will be expanded to produce over 1 million units annually.

Moving forward, Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce new products across the range—from electric SUV to 7-seater SUV—in order to clinch back the lost market share. The e Vitara—that made its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo 2025—will be manufactured at the carmaker’s Gujarat plant exported to multiple countries. Furthermore, the carmaker is also gearing up to launch the Grand Vitara 7-seater SUV to go against the likes of the Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar and other 7-seater SUVs.
