Mahindra Auto has finally launched one of the most anticipated SUVs of this year. No prizes for guessing which one is it. Mahindra is all set to double-down on the Thar brand with the new Mahindra Thar 5-Door, which has been christened as Mahindra Thar ROXX, for reasons only Mahindra seems to understand. The Mahindra Thar ROXX has been launched at an impressive starting price of Rs 12.99 Lakh (ex-showroom). With two engine options, seven exterior colours and plenty of variants to choose from, it’s likely that there is a Thar ROXX that suits your needs (and wants) perfectly. Here are 5 things to know about the newly-launched Mahindra Thar ROXX SUV. 

Mahindra Thar ROXX Powertrains

The Mahindra Thar ROXX gets two engine options — a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with direct injection, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine with direct injection. Both the engines are offered with the option of a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed torque convertor transmission. The turbo-petrol variants are offered only with RWD while the diesel variants are offered with both RWD and 4X4 options. 

Mahindra Thar ROXX Dimensions

The Mahindra Thar ROXX measures 4,428mm in length, 1,870mm in width and 1,923mm in height. This makes it 443mm longer, 50mm wider and 68mm taller than the 3-Door Mahindra Thar. The Thar ROXX has a wheelbase of 2,850mm, which is 400mm longer than the 3-Door Thar. It has a water wading depth of 650 millimetres. It gets a massive 644 litres of boot space, putting sedans to shame.

Mahindra Thar ROXX Features

The Mahindra Thar ROXX offers features that will make you question the tough character of this SUV. The fully-loaded variants of the Thar ROXX get a 9-speaker HARMAN KARDON sound system, a 10.25-inch dual-screen setup on the dashboard, 360-degree cameras, panoramic sunroof, 6-way electronically adjustable driver seat, front ventilated seats, recline function for rear seats, leatherette upholstery and what not. Yes, it’s the Mahindra Thar 5-Door you’re reading about.

Mahindra Thar ROXX Safety Features

The Thar ROXX doesn’t fall behind in terms of safety features as well. It gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, ISOFIX child seat mounts, roll-over mitigation, hill descent control, Level-2 ADAS and a lot more, in addition to a metal top.

Mahindra Thar ROXX Design And Colours

The most notable design feature of the Thar ROXX is the new six-slat front grille with a double-stacked layout. With the 3-Door Thar as a reference, the ROXX gets redesigned bumpers, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and LED rear lights, 18 or 19-inch wheels, sloped design for the C-pillars, and guess what, two more doors! The Mahindra Thar ROXX colour options include Stealth Black, Deep Forest, Nebula Blue, Tango Red, Burnt Sienna, Everest White and Battleship Grey.

Mahindra Thar ROXX Suspension

At the front, the Thar ROXX gets an independent double wishbone suspension, and at the rear, the Thar ROXX gets a rigid axle with penta-link suspension with Watt’s linkage. Though we are yet to test it, the Mahindra ROXX is expected to offer a more comfortable drive and better handling than the 3-Door Mahindra Thar.

Mahindra Thar ROXX Price 

The Mahindra Thar ROXX is priced at Rs 12.99 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the MX1 base petrol variant, which goes up to Rs 20.49 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the AX7L RWD diesel variant. Prices for the maxed-out 4WD variants are yet to be announced. Stay tuned to CARS24 New Cars for updates.
