While we await the upcoming Mahindra Thar facelift, the Indian carmaker has reportedly discontinued the convertible top variants of the current Thar, in addition to certain other variants. The Mahindra Thar 3-door used to come with both hard top and convertible top options, the latter of which are no longer available. Here are more details about the same.

Mahindra used to offer the 3-door Thar in a range of options including hard top variants, soft top ones, variants with open differentials, and more. As per a report by Autocar India, Mahindra has discontinued all convertible variants, as well as ones with open differentials, though they are still listed on the carmaker’s official website at the moment.

The Thar is offered with multiple powertrain options. These include a 1.5-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual, a 2.2-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor, and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor. While the smaller diesel engine is only offered in an RWD configuration, the bigger diesel engine comes with 4WD, and the petrol engine can be specced in either of the two configurations.

Mahindra is expected to launch a facelifted version of the Thar sometime next year. The upcoming Thar facelift is speculated to borrow lots of styling cues from the new Mahindra Thar Roxx, while getting a longer list of features on the inside. Powertrain options are likely to remain unchanged.
