Mahindra Thar 5-Door is surely one of the most anticipated upcoming SUVs in India in 2024. The long wheelbase Thar will not only have 5 doors but it’ll also offer a lot more than its 3-door version. Ahead of its official debut, the final phase of road testing is ongoing and this Mahindra SUV has been seen on test multiple times in the last few months. Mahindra Thar 5-Door: Design Changes & Feature Details

As visible in the latest spy shots, the upcoming Thar 5-door will look similar to its 3-door version and if reports are to be believed, will share its underpinnings with the Thar 3-door. However, the extensively reworked chassis of this version will make it longer than the standard Thar. While the overall stance of the SUV looks butch and bulky, Mahindra has not changed the iconic design highlights like the round headlights, vertical slat grille, and the tail-mounted rear tyre.

To make it look premium, Thar 5-door is likely to get LED headlights and LED fog lights. Additionally, the alloy wheels too get a different, machine-cut design that will give the SUV a fresh appeal. This new version of the Thar SUV is also likely to get 4 disc brakes as well. 

Inside, it’ll get a redesigned dashboard along with a bigger touchscreen infotainment, a new digital console, and a steering wheel similar to that of the Scorpio N. Other crucial features include an electric sunroof, push-button start, and more.

Engine & Gearbox Options

While it is widely speculated that the 5-door Thar will retain the same engine options as the 3-door version, Mahindra might tune them differently to offer better performance. For those wondering, the present-gen Mahindra Thar is offered with two engine options – 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol. Both these engines are offered with a 4X4 setup and can be had with manual as well as automatic gearbox options. Just like the 3-door Thar, the new Mahindra Thar Armada might also get an RWD version with select engine options. 

Mahindra Thar 5-Door Launch Date, Price, and Rivals

Given the fact that Mahindra is completing the last leg of road testing, the Thar 5-door is expected to launch soon. Some online rumours suggest that the new Mahindra Thar 5-door launch is scheduled for August. However, being longer than 4 metres, the Thar 5-Door attract higher taxes and this would result in a hefty price tag. Having said this, the Mahindra Thar 5-door price in India is likely to start from Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) but Mahindra might have a surprise for us as part of the introductory offers.
