Mahindra to turn into an only-SUV automaker
Outline

Mahindra Marazzo—the only MPV in Mahindra’s portfolio—is said to be discontinued in March 2025. If this rumour turns out to be a reality, it will leave Mahindra as a SUV-only automaker in the Indian market. Read on to know more about the Mahindra Marazzo and what led to its failure in the highly competitive MPV space in the Indian market.

Mahindra Marazzo to finally discontinue?

The Marazzo has had anything but a smooth ride in the Indian market with reports about it getting discounted surfacing every now and then. Mahindra even delisted the Marazzo from its website for a brief time, confirming a slew of rumours erupting back in June 2024 about it getting discontinued but soon after, it received a second life. However, it seems like the end of the road for the Marazzo as the sales continue to plummet. Autocar India recently mentioned in their weekly podcast about the production of the Marazzo finally ending in March 2025, putting a full stop to the Marazzo story.

Mahindra Marazzo sales in India

If you analyse the monthly sales of the Marazzo, which are factory dispatches to dealerships, the Marazzo has barely crossed double digits, with certain months recording zero dispatches. In the last 6 months, Mahindra dispatched only 86 units of the Marazzo to its dealerships across India, which is a shockingly low number. Since its launch, the Marazzo witnessed its best sales in the year 2019, crossing 19,000 factory dispatches to dealerships and since then, it has been on the downtrend.

Why the Mahindra Marazzo failed?

After offering half baked attempts like the Xylo, Mahindra tried a solid attempt with the Marazzo. Designed by Pininfarina and underpinned by a unique ladder-frame cum monocoque hybrid platform, the Marazzo carried a lot of promise. It started off well too, with decent monthly sales and respectable customer reviews. However, it was pitted against the legacy and bulletproof value of the Toyota Innova, which has only grown with time. A meek diesel engine, lack of an automatic transmission option and an ungainly design are some of the reasons cited for the downfall of the Marazzo. Furthermore, Mahindra didn’t attempt to make the Marazzo more desirable and decided not to give any major updates to the MPV, leading to the decrease in market popularity and thereby its sales.
