Outline

Kia India has been one of the fastest growing carmakers in the Indian market. A new announcement reveals that Kia India has achieved 1 million sales within 59 months from the commencement of India operations. The Seltos and Sonet SUVs have been the most popular in their respective segments whereas the Carens MPV has been very successful in the MPV space.

Kia Seltos Retains Its Lead

Kia began its India innings with the launch of the Seltos, which has been the star performer for the South Korean carmaker till date. The Seltos has contributed 48% in the total domestic sales of Kia India. The Seltos is closely followed by the Sonet and Carens, which contributed 34% and 16% respectively.

High Trims Preference

From day one, Kia has portrayed itself as a premium and aspirational brand in the Indian market, despite playing in the price-sensitive market. That decision reflects in the buyer preferences, as 42% of the Kia India sales are brought by the top trims of its offerings. The higher variants of the Kia models offer high-tech and premium features, most of which are not offered with their respective competitors.

Transmission Extravaganza

The Kia Seltos, when introduced back in 2019, was launched with a slew of transmission options, which included manual, torque converter, CVT and DCT. Later on, Kia India didn’t stop there but also added the intelligent manual transmission, which is essentially a manual transmission without a clutch pedal. The long range of transmission options has enabled Kia India to capture 32% of its total sales with the automatic transmission options, which is closely followed by the iMT contributing 15% to the total domestic sales.

Kia Diesel Cars Going Strong Still

While most of the mass-market and even premium carmakers have lost their faith in diesel engines and pulled the plug on the oil burner blocks, Kia India continues with its range of diesel engines. In the total 1 million domestic dispatches, diesel engines contribute 41%. That is really impressive given the multiple factors working against the fate of diesel engines.
