Recall due to potential ICCU failure
Outline

Kia India has issued a voluntary recall of 1,138 units of the EV6, over a potential fault with the car’s Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). This comes as part of a global recall that started earlier this year by the Hyundai Motor Group, which includes brands such as Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. Read more about the latest Kia EV6 recall down below.

Kia EV 6 Recall In India - ICCU Failure

ICCU, or Integrated Charging Control Unit, is a component that is responsible for charging the 12-volt auxiliary battery in cars built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform (Electric Global Modular Platform). The ICCU manages high and low-voltage currents and also charges the low-voltage battery. Failure of the ICCU can cause the 12-volt battery to not get charged, resulting in potentially dangerous situations on the road, such as the car suddenly stalling.

The ICCU has caused significant problems for the Hyundai Motor Group, making them recall lakhs of electric vehicles all around the globe. For instance, Hyundai Motor America and Kia America recalled a combined 1,47,100 units all across the United States, starting in March this year.

Kia EV6 Recall: Vehicles Affected

Cars produced between March 3, 2022 and April 14, 2023 have been recalled by Kia, as of now. The Kia EV6 comes as a CBU in India, which means that it is imported as a Completely Built Up unit. The Hyundai Ioniq 5, on the other hand, is a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit, i.e., it is assembled in India while the parts are imported from other countries. Hyundai India announced the recall of 1,744 units of the Ioniq 5 last month, which were manufactured between July 21, 2022 and April 30, 2024.

A recall was also announced by Hyundai Motors for the Ioniq 5 due to the ICCU issue

What Should The Owners Do Now?

If you own a car manufactured during the specified period, Kia India should reach out to you in order to carry out a free (as it should be) software update in an attempt to solve the issue. Alternatively, you can also call Kia’s customer care or your nearest Kia dealership in order to get the ICCU issue resolved. If required, the fuse of the ICCU will also be replaced at no extra cost.
