Kia EV4 revealed in sedan and hatchback bodystyles — India launch likely?

Kia revealed the EV4 sedan and hatchback at its EV day event earlier this month. The carmaker has now revealed the complete details about its battery and motor specifications and global launch timeline. Kia EV4 design details

The Kia EV4—both hatchback and sedan—carries a unique exterior design that is in line with the latest Kia models. Speaking about the EV4 hatchback design first, it boasts a low-slung front profile with vertically-stacked headlights merged with the Tiger Nose grille, which give it a wide stance. Around the side, it features a strong character line that runs across its length and seamlessly merges with the rear, which feels sharp and aggressive.

The EV4 sedan is similar to its hatchback counterpart. It also features a low-slung nose coupled with the vertical LED lighting arrangement. Around the side, the profile is similar to its hatchback counterpart till the C-pillar, post which it features an elongated tail section that incorporates a two-part spoiler, vertically-stacked tail lights and a large boot of 490 litres.

High-tech interior

Like the exterior design, the interior of both the hatchback and sedan is shared, carrying a new-age design and latest tech from the house of Kia. The highlight, of course, is the tri-screen layout that includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 5.3-inch control display. We saw a similar orientation in the recently launched Kia Syros and the same is also likely to come in the upcoming Kia India models.

Speaking about the Kia EV4 features, it packs in wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, in-built smart TV solution with native app support like Netflix, Spotify and more; an 8-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, advanced driving assistance systems, remote feature operations and more.

Kia EV4 battery, motor specifications

Kia will offer the EV4 hatchback and sedan with two battery pack options —58.3kWh and 81.4kWh. Both the battery pack options come mated to a front-mounted electric motor that dishes out 203PS of power. It is capable of propelling both the hatchback and sedan to a top speed of 170kmph. Coming to the range, the long-range EV4 sedan comes with a claimed range of 630km whereas the hatchback offers a claimed range of up to 590km on a single charge. Furthermore, both models are capable of juicing up their batteries from 10-100% in under 15 mins, with the help of a compatible fast charger.

Will these models come to India?

Ever since Kia has stepped into the Indian market, it has offered only two bodystyles—SUV and MPV—with models like the Seltos, Sonet, Carens, Carnival, EV6 and EV9. However, the carmaker has been actively considering other body style formats since its initial days. Kia India actively considered models like the Stinger performance sportback sedan and Rio hatchback before officially stepping into the market with the Seltos. It is safe to assume that Kia India would also consider the EV4 sedan and hatchback for the Indian market, based on the market response and feasibility. At this point, the carmaker is busy in bringing the updated Carens facelift along with its EV counterpart.
