JSW Motors teases new Jetour T2-based SUV — Everything you need to know
- 1JSW Motors teased its first SUV in India with a full-page ad in The Economic Times
- 2Debut model is expected to be based on the Jetour T2 i-DM plug-in hybrid SUV
- 3Launch is expected in Q3 or Q4 2026
JSW Motors has made its move. No flashy event. No long-press note. Just a full front-page ad in The Economic Times with one sharp line: The future is calling. Will you join the drive? That’s the first clear signal that JSW is ready to step into India’s passenger vehicle market.
This will be the brand’s first model in the country, and expectations are already high. Industry chatter strongly suggests that JSW will debut with a model based on the Chery Jetour T2 i-DM. If that holds true, we’re looking at a five-seater plug-in hybrid SUV designed to sit right in the sweet spot of the Indian market.
Jetour T2 i-DM Teased Ahead of Launch by JSW Motors
This teaser didn’t come out of nowhere. It connects directly to what happened last year, when JSW Group, through its automotive arm JSW Motors, signed a technology and supply agreement with Chery Automobile. Under that deal, Chery agreed to provide technology and key components. The goal was clear. Help JSW launch a new-energy vehicle brand in India by 2027.

At the time, it felt like a long-term strategy taking shape quietly in the background. Now, with this SUV teaser out in the open, that agreement seems to be translating into something tangible. Industry expectations strongly point toward a model based on the Jetour T2 i-DM. Even the silhouette shown in the teaser looks boxy, upright and squared off.
At the rear, the tail lamps run vertically and the tailgate looks wide and chunky. If this model makes it to India, some styling updates are likely. The rear design, in particular, could see refinements to better suit Indian preferences. Lighting elements and trim detailing may also be adjusted for local tastes.

In terms of size, this is not a small SUV. The international-spec T2 measures 4785 mm in length, 2006 mm in width, and 1870 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2800 mm.

What engine will power the upcoming Jetour T2 in India?

Internationally, the Jetour T2 comes in petrol, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions. In India, JSW is said to focus on the hybrid segment, which is still in its early growth phase. The expectation is a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain paired with electric motors and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. That setup produces 156PS and 220Nm, enough for confident city and highway driving. The 26.7 kWh battery pack gives it a pure electric range of up to 130km (NEDC).
Expected launch timeline for JSW’s new SUV
Not much is officially known yet, but the India-spec Jetour T2 i-DM is expected to launch later this year, likely in the third or fourth quarter of 2026. Additionally, JSW Motors’ advertisement wasn’t just a teaser; it also signalled that the company is actively looking for dealer partners to join the drive.

Just below the ad, interested parties were asked to scan a QR code and submit their interest by 11th March 2026. It’s a small detail, but it shows JSW is already laying the groundwork for its network ahead of the SUV hitting the road.
