India-bound Volkswagen Tayron revealed — Top things to know

Volkswagen has taken the covers off the all-new Tayron SUV, which is set to replace the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace. The Tayron is available in both five-seater and seven-seater configurations with a wide variety of powertrain options in global markets. Here are the top things to know about the new Volkswagen Tayron.

New Volkswagen Tayron

The Volkswagen Tayron is an SUV positioned between the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Volkswagen Touareg. It replaces the Tiguan AllSpace and is also expected to be launched in India, though there is no confirmation from Volkswagen on the same as of now. It is 231mm longer than the regular Volkswagen Tiguan.

Tayron powertrain options

The new Tayron SUV gets a variety of powertrain options that includes two turbocharged petrol engines (one of which is a mild-hybrid), two turbocharged diesel engines, and two plug-in-hybrids. All these engines are paired to dual-clutch transmissions.

The PHEVs get a 19.7kWh battery pack and can achieve an electric-only range of over 100 kilometres. The battery can be charged via an AC charger of up to 11kW and a DC charger of up to 50kW.

Tech, comfort, and safety features

The Volkswagen Tayron gets a ton of tech, comfort, as well as safety features. Some of these include a three-zone automatic climate control, a 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, rear door sunblinds, nine airbags, an ADAS suite with functionalities such as lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking system including pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, and more. Optional features include a panoramic sunroof, 700-Watt Harman Kardon sound system, leather upholstery for the seats with massage and ventilation functions, and more.

VW Tayron launch in India
