The Hyundai Exter was available with a CNG powertrain option right from its launch. However, it packed a conventional large CNG cylinder whereas its arch rival — the Tata Punch — offered the dual-cylinder CNG, thus offering better boot space. In order to compete with the Punch, Hyundai has launched the Exter CNG Duo with twin CNG cylinders and the updated Hyundai Exter CNG price starts from Rs. 8.5 lakh ex-showroom.
Hyundai Exter CNG Duo — All Details
The earlier Hyundai Exter CNG incorporated a 60L CNG tank in its boot, occupying nearly all the space and leaving little to no room for luggage space. With the introduction of the CNG Duo technology, the Exter CNG now offers two smaller CNG tanks tucked parallel to the boot, thereby enabling a lot more luggage space for family needs. It is of course not as much as the Exter petrol, but compared to the earlier Exter CNG, the boot space has been dramatically improved. However, Hyundai has not officially revealed the boot space of the updated Exter CNG Duo.
Like before, the Exter CNG continues with its 1.2L petrol-CNG engine. When running on CNG, the engine produces 69PS of power and 95Nm of torque. Switching to petrol, the power and torque output increase to 83PS and 114Nm respectively. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only whereas the petrol variants of the Exter also offer the option of a 5-speed automated manual transmission. With the CNG fuel, the Exter offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.1km/kg.
