Outline

It’s no secret that both Hyundai and Kia are developing low-cost electric vehicles for the Indian market to take on the emerging EV market. We have seen spied images of both the Kia Carens EV and Hyundai Creta EV in the past but these new images capture both the sister EVs in one frame. Read on to know more about the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Kia Carens EV.

Korean onslaught in the EV space

The upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Kia Carens EV, both from the Hyundai Motor Group, is going to make a strong impact in the growing EV market in India. While the details are scarce, both the Carens and Creta are likely to share their key components like the battery pack, electric motor and BMS. However, since both models will attract a different market segment than each other, we can expect to see different battery specifications, motor outputs and as a result, driving range.

Upcoming Hyundai Creta EV details

Based on the current spy shots, it’s safe to say that the Creta electric will remain close to its ICE counterpart when it comes to design. While the design is still under the wraps, the biggest change seems to be the addition of aero-optimised alloy wheel design. Needless to say, the Creta electric will boast an updated front fascia with an enclosed grille. The interior, too, could get some EV-specific design changes like new controls for gear selector and driving modes.

Hyundai Creta EV spotted

Reports suggest that the 2025 Hyundai Creta EV could come with a 45kWh battery pack. Keeping the costs in check, the Creta EV is likely to boast a single motor powering the front wheels, offering 138PS of power and 255Nm of torque. Given the global range of Hyundai EVs, the Creta EV could offer DC fast charging support via a nose-mounted charging socket, as seen in the spy shots.

Upcoming Kia Carens EV details

Like the Creta EV, the Carens EV too is likely to carry over its design from the ICE counterpart, albeit with a couple of modifications. These will majorly include the new alloy wheel design and a revised front and rear fascia. It is worth mentioning that the Carens is also due for a facelift, which should bring new design elements to the family mover. As far as the interior goes, we do not expect major changes on the inside, except for new seat upholstery, trim pieces and controls for the gear selector and drive modes.

Hyundai Creta EV, Kia Carens EV launch timeline

We expect Hyunda and Kia to showcase and launch their Creta EV and Carens EV, respectively, in the first half of 2025. We expect the Hyundai Creta EV to hit the shores before and go against the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3. The Carens EV, on the other hand, could arrive later and go head on with the BYD eMAX 7 electric MPV.
