- 1Would be sold under a different name in India
- 2Shall be exported in good numbers like the ICE Elevate
- 3To go against SUVs like the upcoming Creta EV, Maruti e Vitara, and Harrier EV
Honda is developing an EV based on the Elevate SUV, and it has planned to launch the same in India in 2025. This has been confirmed by Honda long back, and is reported to be a part of Honda’s Asian Compact Electric (ACE) project. Here are the top things to know about the upcoming Honda Elevate electric.
Upcoming Honda Elevate EV
The Honda Elevate-based electric SUV shall be a retrofitted EV based on the same platform as the ICE-powered Honda Elevate, rather than being built from ground up. It is also likely to share a lot of design cues from the ICE Elevate, as well as featuring the same silhouette. Honda has been one of the early adopters of hybrid powertrains, and is now moving to EVs, just like all the other major players in the global automotive industry.
Different name
The electric Honda Elevate will not be named as the Honda Elevate EV, and will be launched under a different name in India. It’ll be the first Honda electric vehicle in India, and shall precede the launch of Honda’s own lineup of BEVs.
Focus towards exports
A major chunk of the EVs made in India would be exported to international markets. The ICE Elevate is also being exported in good numbers, which also reflects in the brand’s recent sales trend. Honda Cars India has been boosting exports of made in India cars recently and the strategy shall continue to be followed for the brand’s electric vehicles as well. Honda has also been configuring its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan for production of EVs, and expansion of the said plant might also happen in the coming months.

3 new Honda cars for India
At the launch of the new generation Honda Amaze, the Japanese carmaker said that it has plans to launch three new cars and SUVs in India by the financial year 2026-27. One of these will be the Honda Elevate EV, albeit with a different moniker. It is also expected to expand its range of hybrid vehicles in India, with the Honda City being the only hybrid Honda car in India currently on sale.

Upcoming Honda Elevate EV rivals
The electric Honda Elevate already has a few key competitors that are coming up soon; much sooner than the Elevate EV itself. Hyundai is going to launch the Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki is ready to come out with the Maruti e Vitara, both of which are expected to be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo in January 2025. Tata is already in the market with the Curvv EV and has the Harrier EV in the pipeline, while Mahindra has also just revealed the BE 6e and XEV 9e. Honda was pretty late to the party when we speak of SUVs. We are afraid that a similar trend is going to take place in case of electric vehicles too. Only time will tell what actually happens.
