Honda Cars India has been surviving in India with just three cars in its portfolio — Honda City, Honda Amaze and Honda Elevate. It was also quite late to catch up with the compact SUV party, but it did enter with a good product nonetheless. Looking at Honda’s sales numbers from August 2024, there seems to be a 10.7% growth than last year. But the story’s not that simple. Here’s a detailed report on Honda August 2024 sales figures.

MoM and YoY analysis

While there was a good 10.7% growth in YoY sales, domestic sales fell by a big margin while exports rose drastically, hence making that total difference a positive number. Honda cars sales in India fell by a huge 31.4% from 7,880 units in August 2023 to 5,326 units in August 2024. Exports in the same period rose by 165.7% from 2,189 units to 5,817 units in the same period. Month-on-month sales saw a growth in both domestic as well as international markets. Honda saw a domestic growth of 15.2% and a rise in exports by 114.6%, making the cumulative growth translate to 51.9%.

Exports of City and Elevate

A major role in Honda’s overall rise in sales was played by the rise in exports of the Honda City as well as the Honda Elevate. This also resulted in a positive overall growth, while at the same time, domestic markets witnessed a major decline for the Japanese automaker. Interestingly, Honda also exports the made-in-India Honda Elevate to its home market in Japan.
