Outline

Seems like Citroen doesn’t want to miss the chance of taking the limelight from its arch rival — the Tata Curvv. Citroen India has decided to launch the Basalt coupe SUV on August 7, which happens to be the launch date of the upcoming Tata Punch as well. However, it is worth mentioning that Tata Motors will launch the Curvv EV on August 7, followed by the launch of its petrol and diesel variants.

Citroen Basalt Launch Date

Citroen India will launch the Basalt coupe SUV on August 7, 2024. The carmaker has already revealed the exterior and interior details of the coupe SUV ahead of its price announcement. Like the C3 and C3 Aircross, the Basalt also sits on Citroen’s C-cubed platform, with the Basalt being the 4th model to be underpinned by the heavily localised platform. The carmaker is likely to open bookings for the Basalt SUV on the launch day itself, followed by the roll out of deliveries.

Citroen Basalt Features

Citroen revealed some of the features of the Citroen Basalt via the official teaser that it released a few days ago. These include automatic climate control, front and rear armrests, six airbags, wireless smartphone charging, extendable under thigh support and an LCD instrument cluster. Further features include a 10.2-inch instrument cluster with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and TPMS.

Citroen Basalt Powertrain Options

The Citroen Basalt will come with two powertrain options — a 1.2-litre normal petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine will offer 82PS of power and 113Nm of torque whereas the turbocharged unit will offer 110PS of power and 190Nm of torque with the manual and 205Nm of torque with the automatic.

Citroen Basalt Rivals And Expected Price

The Citroen Basalt is going to be a coupe SUV counterpart to the Citroen C3 Aircross. However, since it also features the less-powerful naturally-aspirated petrol engine, it is likely to be priced either lower than the C3 Aircross or on par with it. We expect the Citroen Basalt price to start from Rs 11 lakh and go up to 14 lakh ex-showroom. The Citroen Basalt will go against the likes of the Curvv petrol as well as other C-segment SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
