Outline

Citroen India has taken the wraps off the complete details of the upcoming Basalt coupe SUV ahead of its launch on August 7, 2024. The Basalt shares its underpinnings, powertrains and design details with the C3 Aircross, which is essentially its conventional 3-row SUV counterpart. In this article, we share the Citroen Basalt fuel efficiency and compare it with its rivals.

Citroen Basalt Vs Rivals — Fuel Efficiency Compared

The Citroen Basalt comes with two engine options — a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. While its rivals like the Hyundai Creta and other C-segment SUVs also offer both types of petrol engines, the more-powerful engine of the Basalt rivals the naturally-aspirated petrol engines of some of the C-segment SUVs as they boast larger displacements. Let’s compare the fuel efficiency of the Basalt with other C-segment SUVs.

Among all the base engines mentioned in the table above, only the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq use turbocharging on their 3-cylinder block. Rest of the engines are naturally aspirated and respectively fuel efficient. The most fuel efficient engine in the list is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara/ Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, followed by the Taigun/Kushaq and the Citroen Basalt.

Coming to the top engine options, the Citroen Basalt comes out to be the most fuel efficient in the list, closely followed by the Volkswagen Taigun/Skoda Kushaq. It is worth mentioning that the Basalt, and its SUV sibling C3 Aircross, offer the least power and torque in this list. As we stated earlier, the power output of Basalt’s turbocharged petrol engine is matched to the output of the Creta’s and Seltos’ naturally aspirated petrol engines. The turbocharged petrol engines in the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos produce power upward of 160PS, which is considerably higher than that of the Basalt, which offers 110PS.
