- 1BYD patents two new electric SUV designs in India
- 2BYD Bao 3 likely to be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025
- 3BYD Bao 3 offers a rugged off-road SUV design with dual-motor drivetrain
BYD, which currently happens to be the world’s best-selling EV maker, is expanding its roots in the Indian market. After the launch of the eMAX 7 electric MPV, the Chinese EV-maker has now filed two new design patents in India, one of which is of the Bao 3 electric SUV. We expect BYD to showcase a slew of cars at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025, including the Bao 3.
BYD Bao 3 electric SUV design patented in India
The Bao 3 comes from a new brand Fang Cheng Bao, which is a subsidiary of BYD. Established in 2023, the Fang Cheng Bao offers a slew of rugged electric SUVs in China and is set to make its entry into the European market soon. We expect the Bao 3 to make its India debut under the BYD brand and not Fang Cheng Bao. Following the footsteps of other BYD models in India, the Bao 3 could carve a unique niche for itself in the Indian market, as a rugged off-road electric SUV. A recent design patent filed by BYD shows the bold and rugged design of the Bao 3, which also includes a roof storage box for added practicality.

BYD Bao 3 design, specifications, launch details
First showcased at an auto show in China as a concept, the Bao 3 has already stepped into its production form, ahead of its launch around the globe. As we mentioned earlier, it packages a very practical and rugged design along with an electric powertrain, a combination that we have hardly seen in the electric mobility space. Its key design elements include accentuated wheel arches, flush-fit door handles, a flat and long bonnet and chunky tyres.
Coming to its specifications, the Bao 3 measures 4605/1900/1720 mm in length/width/height and boasts a wheelbase of 2745mm. These dimensions should place it against the Mahindra electric SUV duo — the BE 6 and the XEV 9e. Quite apparent from the looks of it, the Bao 3 incorporates a dual-motor drivetrain, enabling all-wheel-drive. Its front motor offers an output of 150PS whereas the rear motor dishes out 300PS of power, enabling the SUV to go from standstill to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds. While the battery specifications are not revealed yet, it’s said to incorporate BYD’s blade-type battery.

Speaking about its India launch, BYD has only filed a design patent for the Bao 3. It’s too early to judge when it will be launched in the Indian market. However, we do believe that the Bao 3 could mark its presence at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025 along with the Denza N9 electric SUV.
