We were as surprised as you are on hearing about the stellar pricing of the new Skoda Kylaq sub-compact SUV. Launched today at a starting price of Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Kylaq undercuts many of its competitors like the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai Venue. Packing in a neat design along with premium features such as front ventilated seats, the Kylaq looks ready to capture a chunk of the market from its rival cars. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Skoda Kylaq.
2024 Skoda Kylaq
The Skoda Kylaq marks Skoda’s entry into the competitive sub-compact SUV segment that is being ruled over by cars such as the Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon. The Kylaq sits on the India-spec MQB-A0-IN platform. It has been developed as part of the brand’s INDIA 2.5 programme, and it aims to sell 1,00,000 units of the SUV in India per year.

Kylaq engine and transmission options
The Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI motor that is also seen on other Skoda-VW cars such as the Kushaq and the Taigun. The said engine puts out 116PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 178Nm. This three-pot unit can be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor.

Design and dimensions
Skoda has been pushing for the design to be a talking point for the Kylaq, featuring their new ‘Modern Solid’ design language. It gets the signature Skoda grille on the front end, which is complemented by sleek DRLs and chunky headlamps further down the face. There’s not much to talk about the side profile, though the character line extending from the rear light reminds me of Skoda’s arrow logo; maybe it’s just me. The rear end gets tiny lights with SKODA badging at the centre of the boot lid.

Kylaq interior and features
The new Kylaq borrows its steering wheel from its elder sibling, the Skoda Kushaq. There’s a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen at the centre and an 8-inch digital driver’s display behind the wheel. The air-conditioning vents have been shaped octagonally and it gets touch-based controls for the HVAC, which would have been better if kept physical. Other features include a sunroof, ventilated front seats (nice!), electrically-adjustable front seats, cooled glovebox, 6 airbags, ESC, roll-over protection, electronic differential lock, and more. Boot space is claimed to be 446 litres.
