- 3Diesel-hybrid system likely to debut in India on the Fortuner
Toyota has updated the Hilux pickup truck in the United Kingdom with a mild-hybrid system that has been paired to the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine. The India-spec Toyota Hilux also gets this diesel engine, and is likely to come with the same 48-volt mild-hybrid setup soon. Here’s more information about the new Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V.
2025 Toyota Hilux Mild-Hybrid

The updated Toyota Hilux gets a 48-volt lithium-ion battery that can provide an additional power of 16PS and an additional torque of 65Nm to the diesel engine at start-off. The diesel engine alone is capable of producing 204PS of maximum power and 500Nm of peak torque. The battery is charged by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor-generator that is driven by the engine. The hybrid setup reduces the idling speed of the engine from 720rpm to 600rpm.
Multi-Terrain Select System

Moreover, the Hilux Hybrid 48V is also the first Hilux to get Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select System that comes with six settings — Sand, Mud, Rock, Dirt, Deep Snow, and Auto. The MTS system adjusts various functions like drive force, suspension and hydraulic brake pressure to suit varied terrains and driving conditions.

Key Toyota Hilux features include dual-zone climate control, vehicle stability control, seven airbags, front and rear fog lamps, cruise control, park assist, leather upholstery for the seats, downhill assist control, electronic differential lock, and more.

Upcoming Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V India launch

There is no confirmation about an India launch of the updated Hilux pickup with the mild-hybrid setup, though we expect Toyota to bring this system to India in the near future. The same technology is likely to debut on the Toyota Fortuner in India.
