2025 Kia Sonet drops diesel iMT — New variants introduced

As we step into the year 2025, Kia India has silently updated its sub-compact SUV—Kia Sonet—with new variants and has discontinued the diesel iMT powertrain option from the lineup. Read on to know about all the changes that have been introduced to the 2025 Kia Sonet along with its new variants and prices.

2025 Kia Sonet launched in India

This being a model year update, the 2025 Kia Sonet does not offer any cosmetic or functional changes. However, it brings a revision to the feature set of certain variants along with the introduction of a new variant that brings premium features at an affordable price. The 2025 Kia Sonet price has also gone up amid the 2% price hike that Kia had introduced in the beginning of the year 2025.

Kia Sonet diesel iMT discontinued

Kia India has discontinued the diesel iMT variants from the 2025 Sonet lineup. Moreover, the diesel iMT powertrain has been dropped from the entire lineup it was available in, which includes models such as the Seltos and Carens as well. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission like before. Furthermore, the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines are offered like before, with the latter also being offered with the 6-speed iMT transmission.

Kia Sonet HTE (O), HTK+ (O) launched 

\While the diesel iMT variants have been discontinued, Kia India has introduced two new variants to the 2025 Sonet lineup—HTE (O) and HTK+ (O). The HTE (O) variant is only available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine at Rs 8.40 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi. The Kia Sonet HTE (O) features include electric sunroof, sunglass holder, rear window sunshades and rear power windows.

The Sonet HTK+ (O) variant has also been introduced as it replaces the now discontinued Gravity Edition. The Sonet HTK+ (O) price is set at Rs 10.50 lakh with the 1.2-litre petrol, Rs 11 lakh for the 1.0-litre iMT and Rs 12 lakh for the 1.5-litre diesel manual. The Kia Sonet HTK+ (O) features include 16-inch alloy wheels, matte chrome-finished Tiger Nose grille, electric sunroof and more.
