The Kia Sonet is close to its launch and with every passing day, we're getting our hands on new details of the upcoming sub-compact-SUV that will go on to rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Recently, we informed you that the upcoming model will have the largest touchscreen in its segment, and today, we've even come up with the 0-100 Kmph timings for all the variants of the new model.
Kia Sonet Specifications
1.2-litre Petrol | 1.0-litre Turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre Diesel Manual | 1.5-litre Diesel Automatic
Power | 83hp | 120hp | 100hp | 115hp |
Torque | 115Nm | 172Nm | 240Nm | 250Nm |
Transmission Options | 5-speed manual | 6-speed iMT / 7-speed DCT | 6-speed MT | 6-speed AT |
As we have been saying, the Kia Sonet will be available in multiple petrol and Diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that will pump out a maximum power of 83bhp and a peak torque of 115Nm. The second petrol engine on offer will be 1.0-litre Turbo petrol engine that offers 120hp and 172Nm. While the less powerful petrol engine will be available with a 5-speed manual transmission, the more powerful engine will be available with a 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT automatic options. The diesel variants will be available with 1.5-litre motors with FGT and VGT, respectively. The former will output 100 PS and 240 Nm and will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, while the latter will offer 115 PS and 250 Nm will come mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Kia Sonet 0-100 Kmph Acceleration Timings
1.2-litre Petrol | 1.0-litre Turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre Diesel Manual | 1.5-litre Diesel Automatic
0-100kmph | 13.3 seconds | 11.3 seconds (DCT) / 12.3 seconds (iMT) | 12.3 seconds | 11.8 seconds |
The table that you see above offers you the details of the 0-100 Kmph acceleration timings of all the variants. As expected, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with the 7-speed DCT is the fastest of the lot with a 9-10 Kmph timing of 11.2 seconds. Next, we have the 1.5-litre diesel automatic variant, which has a timing of 11.8 seconds. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with the iMT has a 0-100 Kmph acceleration timing of 12.3 seconds, which is the same as what the 1.5-litre diesel manual model offers. The 1.2-litre petrol engine variant can sprint from 0 to 100 Kmph in 13.3 seconds.
We aren't surprised looking at these timings for they're quite similar to those of the Hyundai Venue. However, there are two things that are required to be kept in mind here. Firstly, the Venue is not available with a diesel-automatic option, which means it misses out on the more powerful 1.5-litre Diesel engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Secondly, these are all company-claimed figures and hence, real-world performance is very likely to differ by some margin. Still, our guess is that the 1.0-litre Turbo-petrol engine with 7-speed DCT will be able to clock a sub-12 seconds time to 100 Kmph even in real-world conditions.
