Founded in May 2017, Kia India, a subsidiary of the Korean Automotive giant Kia, started its Indian chapter with the Seltos, a sufficiently premium compact SUV that takes on the likes of Hyundai Creta. Over the years, the carmaker added more models to its lineup, with most of these additions fairing very well in the market.
Interestingly, even though the carmaker enjoys a vast lineup of high-end cars in the international market, it decided to bring to our shores an electric car as its halo model. We’re talking about the Kia EV6 here - a world-class EV that has won numerous accolades and has been appreciated by car experts across countries.
Thanks to the high price and the limited demand, only a handful of units of the EV6 are imported to India every year. That said, the EV6 pretty much justifies its price tag and comes across as a well-rounded option for anyone looking for a premium electric vehicle. With that in mind, let’s have a closer look at the Kia EV6, considered by many as the best Kia electric car in India in 2024.
Model | Fuel Type | Body Type | Range | Ex-Showroom Price | Used Car Price |
Kia EV6 | Electric | Crossover | 708 km | ₹60.95 lakh-₹65.95 lakh | Not Applicable |
1. Kia EV6
Available at a relatively high starting price of ₹70.95 lakh, the Kia EV6 is certainly among one of the most highly priced cars in its segment in India. However, one of the major reasons for this stratospheric pricing is that it comes to us through the Completely Built Up (CBU) route. Also, only a limited number of units of the EV6 are earmarked for India this year.
Moreover, these will be available only at 15 Kia India dealerships spread across 12 cities. Right now, the EV6 doesn’t have a direct competitor, but it’s important to note that the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which bears a close resemblance, was launched earlier this year.
The Ioniq 5 is priced more competitively due to the local assembly as well as lower specs. Meanwhile, the Kia EV6 is available with a bigger 77.4 kWh battery pack. There are two versions on offer–Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD). The former offers a power output of 229 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm, while the latter has a stellar power output of 326 bhp and an incredibly high torque of 605 Nm. The fact that the Kia EV6 GT can sprint from 0-100 km/h in a scintillating 3.5 seconds, is testament to the power it packs
The maximum driving range per charge in the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle is 528 km while it’s 708 km as per Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). Even in the real world driving conditions, one can safely expect a range of over 450 km. The EV6 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. On a 50 kW fast charger, the battery takes 73 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. For home charging, the Kia EV6 comes with a 22 kW wall box that is likely to charge the EV completely in a few hours (the official figures aren’t available).
