Outline

When it was launched in 2020, the Tata Altroz was positioned as a premium hatchback. The segment included highly popular and established rivals like the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the Toyota Glanza.  The Altroz secured a 5 star safety rating from Global NCAP even before it arrived on showroom floors.

Introduced as a replacement for the aging Tata Bolt, the Altroz was well equipped and offered a comfortable driving experience, all of which made it a promising choice for hatchback buyers. Since then, the Altroz has received frequent updates, however, the 2020 Tata Altroz continues to be a great option for anyone looking to buy a second hand hatchback car.

Tata Altroz Generations and Facelifts

Tata Altroz Generations and Facelifts

The 2020 Altroz was the first car based on the ALFA ARC platform by Tata Motors. The premium hatchback offered with a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. A five speed manual transmission was the standard option with both. The Altroz DCA with an automatic transmission was only introduced in 2022.

Tata offered the Altroz in 2020 in five variants: XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ (O). Additionally, the Indian car maker offered option packs with certain variants. This allowed buyers to add certain features to a particular variant without having to pay the full price of upgrading to a higher variant.

The XE variant specced with the optional Rhythm Pack added a 3.5 inch infotainment screen and 4 speakers to the base variant. The XM variant could be specced with the Rhythm Pack or Style Pack. The former added a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system, four additional speakers (two are offered as standard) and a reversing camera. Alternatively, the Style Pack added 16 inch styled steel wheels, contrast black roof, body coloured ORVMs, fog lamps (front and rear) and DRLs.

The XT variant with the Luxe Pack added leather wrapped steering/gear lever, rear seat armrest, height adjustable driver seat, rear fog lamps, black contrast roof, metal finish for inner door handles, 16 inch styled steel wheels and body coloured ORVMs. The Urban Pack option for the XZ variant added exterior colour coordinated interiors, body coloured ORVMs and black contrast roof.

Used Tata Altroz 2020: Should You Consider Buying One?

The variant list for the Altroz has grown over the years along with powertrain and feature updates.  However, a used Tata Altroz from 2020 remains an ideal hatchback for many buyers.

Exterior and Interior

The Altroz debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and it immediately stood out for its looks. The front end featured a swept back appearance with Tata’s ‘Humanity Line’ design philosophy taking centre stage.

The swept back projector headlamps give the front end a cohesive appearance, and overall, it's a flowing design which, at the same time, also looks aggressive and commands road presence. The theme remains similar for the rear end, however, it features the use of more prominent lines in the design making it stand out. Overall, the 2020 Tata Altroz looks great on the road.

2020 Altroz interior

Tata cars have always been known for their spacious cabin, and the 2020 Altroz continues that trend. The cabin design maximises space for its occupants, especially legroom and shoulder room. The dashboard features a layered design and a free standing touchscreen acts as the centrepiece.

The HVAC and infotainment controls are ergonomically positioned below it. The colour palette for the cabin mostly consists of black, with certain trims on the dashboard and doors using a light grey colour.
