Outline

The Hyundai Venue is a sub-4-metre compact SUV that was launched in 2019. The Venu’s compact proportions makes it a great car to drive in congested metros and suburban cities. With up to 195 mm of ground clearance, the Venue impresses when driving over rough roads while offering the feel of an SUV with compact footprint.

With the compact SUV segment buzzing with activity, manual and automatic variants of the  Hyundai Venues are among the most popular choices. If you are looking for a used Hyundai Venue, here are some things to know before buying.

Hyundai Venue: Model Overview

There has been only one generation of the Hyundai Venue with one facelift model sold in India. The Hyundai Venue is offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with a choice of transmissions for the petrol engine. A sporty “N Line” model was also offered with a list of cosmetic and minor mechanical enhancements.

Hyundai has comprehensively updated the Venue’s diesel engine to meet current emission norms. The old 1.4 diesel was replaced by the 1.5 diesel when BS6 norms came into effect, and we now have the BS6-2 version.

Introduced in 2019, the Hyundai Venue has a sculpted design to hide its boxy proportions. Muscular bumpers, flared wheel-arches, and stylish roof-rails give it a butch appearance. The well-equipped cabin packs an AVN touchscreen and Bluelink connectivity with smartwatch and smartphone integration. It also gets a sunroof, air purifier, wireless charger and enhanced driver aids. A two-tone colour option was also available.

The Hyundai Venue engine choices included a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, making 82 bhp and 114 Nm, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. A powerful 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol with 118 bhp and 172 Nm was offered with a choice of 6-speed IMT or a 7-speed DCT. The diesel option was the 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 89 bhp and 220 Nm, offered with a 6-speed MT.

First Facelift (2022-present)

facelift 1 Launched in 2022

The Hyundai Venue facelift was launched in July 2022 and is the current model. The dark chrome grille and the connected LED tail-light bar are the biggest styling changes. The interior was upgraded with a colour TFT driver display, four-way powered driver seat, four-spoke D-cut steering wheel, electric sunroof, and segment-first 2-step reclining rear seats.

A key addition is Hyundai SmartSense ADAS, available in the SX(O) trim.

Engine choices for the Hyundai Venue include the 82-bhp 1.2-litre petrol with a 5-speed manual, and the 118-bhp 1.0 Turbo petrol with a 6-speed MT or 7-speed DCT. The new 1.5-litre turbo-diesel produces 114 bhp and 250 Nm and only has a 6-speed MT.

Hyundai Venue N Line (2022-present)

First Generation (2019-2022, QX)

Hyundai also launched the sporty Venue N Line in 2022. It gets a special Thunder Blue and Abyss Black dual-tone paint option, black and red “N” accents on the grille, wheels, and in the cabin, plus an extended roof spoiler, skid-plates, and a tuned exhaust. The Hyundai Venue N Line is only offered with the 118-hp 1.0 TGDI engine and has N6 and N8 variants, with a choice of 6-speed MT or 7-speed DCT.

The Venue N Line also uses a firmer sporty suspension set up, four disc-brakes as well as a revised power steering system.

Maintenance and Service Costs of the Hyundai Venue

Maintenance and Service Costs of the Hyundai Venue

When you buy a second hand Hyundai Venue you must consider the service cost as it directly impacts the overall cost of ownership. Hyundai India has a growing dealer and after sales service network across the country, which makes it easy to get your Venue serviced, and spare parts are readily available.

Here is the average service cost for the first five years of service for the Hyundai Venue.

ServiceApprox. Cost (₹, Petrol/Diesel)Mileage (km)Months
1st Service1,450/2,10010,00012
2nd Service1,750/3,40020,00024
3rd Service4,350/4,40030,00036
4th Service4,250/5,90040,00048
5th Service4,000/4,60050,00060

The Hyundai Venue is one of the bestselling models for the brand over the past five years. Finding a Hyundai service centre is easy, and getting your Venue serviced at an authorised facility and in time will keep things running smoothly.

Apart from the periodic service schedule, buying a used Venue could have more service commitments. If you have bought an example with low mileage, it may not entail much cost. But if it has higher mileage, it would require a closer inspection and a more comprehensive service after 60,000 km or so. That entails replacement of parts such as spark plugs, brake pads and even the clutch plate. The following are the costs that may be involved:

Brakes: Maintain sure stopping power by replacing the brake pads at around 25,000-30,000 km. Brake pads for the Hyundai Venue cost around ₹3,800 while the brake discs are ₹3,300-3,500.

Engine: An extensively used Hyundai Venue may need some replacements to maintain the smooth and efficient performance of the engine. The fan belt costs ₹700, the timing chain kit costs about ₹3,000. Spark plugs are priced at ₹1,100, but need replacing at 60,000 km for the 1.2 petrol and 70,000 km for the 1.0 turbo petrol

Clutch: A light car’s clutch will last for about 60,000 km with normal driving, after which it may require replacing. The Hyundai Venue clutch plate replacement cost is about ₹9,600 not accounting for labour and consumables.

Resale Value of the Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue is one of the most popular compact SUV models in India and has a robust reputation for refinement and performance, thus enjoying a better resale value. On an average, a 5-year old Hyundai Venue Turbo SX+ DCT retains about 60% of its original value, whereas a 1.5-year old Hyundai Venue 1.2 S(O) Knight Edition retains nearly 80% of its value.

The Venue makes a great first or second car, and is a good upgrade from an older vehicle. The resale value depends upon several factors, such as:

Location: Where the car is registered and used makes a difference because cars from cities are valued higher than cars from coastal areas or traffic-dense metros.

Model Year: Newer car models will have a higher resale value than cars a few more years old.

Variant: Higher variants of the Venue, especially SX onwards, N Line models, and the DCT automatic or diesel models will be more expensive. They also will have a higher resale value because of the additional features and equipment.

Condition: A well-maintained Hyundai Venue which was regularly serviced, with a well recorded service history will demand better resale value.

Mileage: A sparingly used Hyundai Venue with a lower odometer reading will have a higher resale value than one with more miles on the clock.

Common Problems with a Hyundai Venue

  1. Rear space: Several buyers report that the Hyundai Venue has limited rear passenger room, especially lesser knee-room than what is ideal.

  2. Handling: There are reports of the Venue being difficult to control at high speeds on highways, especially when experiencing cross winds.

  3. Base model features: E and S models are cheaper but have a lot of black plastic where higher variants have buttons.

  4. Power delivery: Some owners report loss of power or inconsistent power delivery in hilly areas.
