Outline

The Hyundai Venue made its India debut in May, 2019. It was a landmark moment for the Indian automotive industry as it was the first mass market car to feature connected car technology. It allowed car owners to stay connected to their vehicles in real time, and also control some of its features via smartphones.

Today, the sub 4 metre SUV segment is packed with options. However, back in 2019, the Venue was among the first few SUVs to populate the segment. With new car prices appreciating swiftly over the past few years, buying a used Hyundai Venue that was first sold between 2019 and 2022 is a great option for many car buyers.

Hyundai Venue Generations and Facelifts

Since 2019, the Hyundai Venue has undergone one facelift, but it is yet to undergo a generation change. Initially, it was available in six variants; E, S, SX, SX Dual Tone, SX+ and SX (O). To improve the distribution of features in lower variants, new variants based on the S and SX variants were introduced in 2020. Based on the S variant, the new S(O) worked as the base variant for the 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine and 1.5 litre diesel engine. The S+ variant became the top-spec variant for the naturally aspirated 1.2 litre petrol engine.

An automatic transmission (a DCT) was only available with the 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine. Initially, a 1.4 litre diesel engine was offered with the Venue from its launch till March, 2020. However, with the shift to BS6 emission norms, Hyundai switched it to a 1.5 litre diesel engine.

An iMT or Intelligent Manual Transmission variant of the Venue was also launched in July, 2020, but it was discontinued in September, 2023. It was a 6 speed unit available with the turbocharged petrol engine. With the launch of the Venue iMT, Hyundai had also introduced a Sport package, a cosmetic addition, for the SX, SX+ and SX(O) variants of the SUV.

The Korean car maker launched a facelift for the Venue in June, 2022. It featured sharper styling, which is more in line with Hyundai’s global models. Based on the facelift, a sporty N Line variant of the Hyundai Venue was also launched in September, 2022. However, in this article we will be focusing on the pre-facelift models of the Venue, i.e., units of the Venue first sold between May, 2019 and June, 2022.

Used Hyundai Venue 2019 - 2022: Should You Consider Buying One?

Exterior and Interior

The 2019 - 2022 Hyundai Venue has a unique design, featuring a boxy shape with sharp lines which resonates well with SUV buyers. The grille with its rectangular pattern looks aggressive and gives the Venue road presence. The rear of the SUV features more subdued styling with its rectangular tail lights fitting well with the overall design. Despite cars going through updates every few years, the Venue’s design still looks modern.

The interior of the 2019 - 2022 Venue is well appointed. For mono tone exterior colours, the upholstery is black. However, in the case of dual tone exterior colour schemes like Denim Blue with Polar White Roof and Polar White with Phantom Black Roof, the 2019 - 2022 Venue features a Denim dual tone shade of upholstery for the interior. Additionally, a Khakee dual tone shade for the interior was also offered with the Deep Forest and the Lava Orange with Phantom Black Roof external colour schemes.

Key Features

The features list of the 2019 - 2022 Hyundai Venue is quite well suited to the needs of modern drivers. Furthermore, the best features aren’t limited to the top-spec SX(O) variant of the Venue. Instead, useful features like an electric sunroof, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity and Hyundai Blue Link (connected car technology) are available in lower variants as well. In fact, if you pair the turbocharged petrol engine with the DCT in the SX trim, then, you only miss out on a 60:40 split for rear seats and a rear wiper and washer compared to the top-spec SX(O) variant.

Safety and Reliability

The 2019 - 2022 Hyundai Venue has a lot of standard safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, front seat belt pre-tensioners, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX anchorage points for child seats. In fact, all variants of the pre-facelift Venue are a great option for new parents looking to switch to an SUV.

Furthermore, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) and HAC (Hill Assist Control) are all available on DCT equipped units of the Venue. However, if you want the protection of six airbags instead of two, you will have to aim for the top-spec SX (O) variant. Lastly, if a TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) is a must-have, then you should look out for 2021 or newer models of the Venue as it was not offered before that.

The Venue has no major reliability stigma attached to it. Moreover, the naturally aspirated petrol engine and the diesel engine have been known to be reliable. However, some users have reported the DCT transmission throwing an overheating error when driven in stop/start traffic, and it can cause the transmission to go into limp mode.

Why a Used Hyundai Venue 2019 - 2022 is a Great Investment

If you are looking for a second hand SUV to buy, then, a Hyundai Venue from model years 2019 to 2022 can be a great investment for many reasons, such as Hyundai’s reputation and its wide network in the Indian market.

Easy to Drive

A light steering wheel makes the Hyundai Venue easy to manoeuvre in the city and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines in the higher variants also makes it a breeze to park. If you are interested in a manual transmission powertrain, the Venue’s clutch pedal and gear lever are both easy to operate as well.

Comfortable Ride Quality

It’s not just easy to drive, but the Venue is quite comfortable to be driven around in as well. At city speeds, the Venue’s suspension does a great job of absorbing the imperfections in the road surface. It continues to stay composed at triple digit speeds and also feels stable when driving spiritedly on a winding road. The Venue’s suspension is mostly silent in its operation and it adds greatly to the ownership experience.
