Top Selling Used Renault Cars That Dominated The Roads in 2024

Renault has been selling cars in India since 2011 and the used car market has plenty of models on offer from the French car maker. Buyers looking for second hand cars often look to Renault due to the quirky styling of its models.

In fact, according to the internal data of CARS24, 3.6% of all used cars sold in 2024 were Renault models. The Kwid was the most popular model. These are the best selling used Renault models of 2024.

Top Selling Used Renault Cars of 2024

The Renault Kwid was the most popular used Renault car in 2024, and the manual option was most preferred. Pre owned Duster SUVs were the second best selling model, and the diesel engine accounted for a substantial market share. The Scala too saw more buyers prefer diesel over petrol and Lodgy only gets the option of a diesel.

Renault’s newer models like the Kwid and Triber don’t feature a diesel engine, however, they do account for a relatively bigger percentage of used automatic car sales.

1. Renault Kwid

The Kwid is an entry level hatchback from Renault and accounts for 44% of used Renault cars sold in 2024. It is spacious for its segment, offers good ride quality and the design is eye-catching as well. A second hand Kwid is a great buy for beginner drivers or for those who want a family car on a strict budget.

Engine and Transmission Options

In the used car market, you will find the Kwid with two engine options. The first one is a 0.8 litre petrol engine and that can only be had with a 5 speed manual transmission. It is, however, no longer an option when buying a new Kwid. 

The other engine is a 1.0 litre engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission, or an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Splitting between manual and automatic, 74% of used car buyers opted for the former whereas 26% picked the latter.

2. Renault Duster

The Renault Duster is well known in the Indian automotive market, becoming the first compact SUV to be launched in the country in 2012. It became an instant hit for its overall comfort, SUV design and well tuned diesel engine. In 2024, the Duster accounted for 32% of all used Renault cars sold in 2024. A pre owned Renault Duster is easy to drive in the city, great for long trips and can even do light off-roading, making it a great all-around SUV.

Engine and Transmission Options

Renault initially offered the Duster with a 1.5 litre petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The petrol engine was offered with a 5 speed manual. The diesel engine on the other hand was available in two states of tune (84bhp and 109bhp). The less powerful version got a 5 speed manual transmission whereas the more powerful tune featured a 6 speed manual transmission. 

Renault also introduced an AWD version for a few years with the more powerful diesel engine. Post 2020, the Duster was available only with a 1.3 litre turbo-petrol engine, although the transmission options ranged between a 6 speed manual or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

However, it is the diesel engine of the Duster that remained popular with used car buyers in 2024. It accounted for 88% of all sales with only 12% of buyers opting for the petrol engine. 

The choice was even clearer when picking between a manual and automatic transmission, with 93% of buyers preferring a three pedal driving configuration.

3. Renault Triber

The Renault Triber was an innovative take on the sub 4 metre segment of the Indian automotive market. While conforming to the norms laid down for small cars, the Triber managed to be a 7 seater offering that offered great practicality and utility. Overall, it accounted for 13% of all used Renault cars sold in 2024.

The Renault Triber is offered with a 1.0 litre petrol engine. It can be paired with a 5 speed manual transmission, or an AMT. The manual transmission was opted for by 83% of used Renault Triber buyers.

4. Renault Lodgy

The Lodgy was launched by Renault in 2015 and discontinued in 2020. It was a three row MPV that offered generous amounts of cabin space and kept passengers comfortable in all three rows. Furthermore, its low centre of gravity also blessed it with good handling characteristics, making it fun to drive. That said, the Lodgy appeals to a niche crowd and it accounted for 3% of total used Renault sales in 2024.

• The diesel engine of the Lodgy offered performance and efficiency.

5. Renault Scala

The Scala was launched in 2012 by Renault India and it was discontinued in 2017 due to the new (BSIV) emission norms that came into play at the time. The Scala was a badge engineered version of the Nissan Sunny, and offered great cabin space and supreme ride comfort. 

A pre owned Renault Scala is a great option accounting for 2% of all used Renault sales in 2024, and largely considered among those looking to buy pre owned diesel cars.

• Adjustable headrests for both front and rear seat passengers were offered as standard.

Renault Scala was available with one petrol and one diesel engine option, each having a displacement of 1.5 litres. Both engines were only available with a 5 speed manual transmission. When choosing between fuel types, 26% of used car buyers opted for petrol and 74% people preferred diesel. While 94% opted for the manual transmission option.

Second hand car buyers in 2024 chose Renault cars because of their design and lower costs. While newer Renault models only feature petrol engines, older diesel models were also in great demand by used car buyers.
