Hyderabad’s used car market saw significant growth in 2024, reflecting the rising demand for second-hand vehicles nationwide. 

As per our 2024 used car sales report, Telangana alone accounted for 5.4% of the country’s total used car sales last year. While Hyderabad’s used car market remained vibrant, familiar names dominated the leaderboard.

According to recent data, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, and Tata emerged as the best-selling used car brands in Hyderabad in 2024. Let’s explore their market performance, key models, and year-on-year trends.

The Best Selling Used Car Brands in Hyderabad 

As per the latest data, Maruti Suzuki maintained its dominance in Hyderabad’s used car market in 2024, securing the top spot by a comfortable margin. Hyundai and Honda held on to their second and third positions, while Tata took the fourth spot. Ford rounded out the top five, thanks to sustained demand for the EcoSport and Figo despite the brand’s exit from the Indian market.

Hatchbacks remain the most popular body type among used car buyers in Hyderabad, with the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i10 leading the pack. However, the rising demand for compact SUVs like the Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport signals a noticeable shift toward more practical and rugged vehicles in the city’s used car market.

1. Maruti Suzuki – 34.9% Market Share

Maruti Suzuki retained its position as Hyderabad’s best-selling used car brand, securing 34.9% of the market in 2024, up from 34.1% in 2023. The consistent performance of used Maruti Suzuki cars in Hyderabad underscores the brand’s reputation for reliability and affordability.

The Swift led Maruti's lineup in Hyderabad, contributing 17.49% of the brand’s total used car sales. The Baleno followed with a notable rise to 11.48% from 7.8% in 2023, reflecting growing demand for premium hatchbacks. The Swift Dzire maintained steady demand at 9.63%, reinforcing its position as a preferred used sedan in Hyderabad. 

At the national level, Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the used car market with a 35.9% market share, driven by strong performances from the Swift and Dzire, which account for 11% and 16% of used hatchback and sedan sales in India, respectively.

2. Hyundai – 22.5% Market Share

Hyundai secured the second spot in Hyderabad with a 22.5% share in 2024, slightly down from 23.0% in 2023. Despite this, key models maintained consistent demand.

The i10 remained the best-selling used Hyundai car in Hyderabad, accounting for 17.84% of the brand’s sales — up from 17.2% in 2023. The Grand i10 followed with 13.02%, marking a rise from 11.9%. The Elite i20, at 11.59%, remained stable compared to last year.

On a national level, used Hyundai cars holds a 21.8% share of the market, with the i10 standing out as the top-performing Hyundai hatchback, commanding a 26% market share.

3. Honda – 7.7% Market Share

Used Honda cars in Hyderabad maintained a steady 7.7% market share, mirroring their  2023 performance. Honda’s dominance in the sedan segment remains a key driver of this stability. The City led Honda's used car lineup, accounting for 38.67% of the brand’s total sales in Hyderabad. 

The Amaze showed strong growth, climbing to 21.88% from 18.9% in 2023, highlighting increasing demand for compact sedans. The Jazz maintained stable demand at 8.17%.

Honda's dominance in the sedan category extends to the national level, where the City holds a 16% share, making it the best-selling used sedan in India.

4. Tata – 7.64% Market Share

Used Tata cars in Hyderabad captured 7.64% of the city’s used car market in 2024, up from 7.03% in 2023. This increase reflects growing buyer confidence in Tata’s safety features and build quality.

The Tiago led Tata’s lineup of used cars in Hyderabad with 23.75% of the brand’s sales, slightly up from 23.6% in 2023. The Nexon posted the most significant growth, rising to 17.03% from 11.2% — a sign of the increasing demand for compact SUVs. Conversely, the Indica Vista’s share dropped to 7.03% from 9.4%, while the Nano declined to 6.72% from 9.2%, reflecting changing buyer preferences toward larger and more modern vehicles.

At the national level, the Nexon continues to dominate Tata’s SUV segment, contributing 48% of total used Tata SUV sales in India.

5.Ford – 4.34% Market Share

Ford secured the fifth position, edging out Volkswagen by a narrow margin. Ford’s continued demand in Hyderabad is primarily driven by two key models—the EcoSport and the Figo.The EcoSport dominated with a 40.11% share, making it the best-selling used Ford car in Hyderabad. Its sturdy build and powerful engines remain major factors behind its enduring popularity among subcompact SUV buyers.

The Figo followed closely as the second-best-selling used Ford model, capturing a 24.73% market share in 2024. Meanwhile, the Ford Fiesta emerged as the third-best-selling used Ford and the top-selling Ford sedan in Hyderabad, accounting for 13.74% of the brand’s used car sales.
