In late 2022, Tata launched the Tiago EV, making it India’s most affordable electric car. At the time, it was launched with an aggressive starting MSRP of ₹8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It was also the only EV to be priced under the ₹10 lakh mark.

 

Variants Launched

 

The Tiago EV was introduced with multiple trims and battery options:

 

  • 19.2 kWh battery, offering a range of 250 km.
  • 24 kWh battery, delivering a range of 315 km.

Powering the Tiago EV was Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture that used a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Total output was 73 bhp and 114 Nm for the larger battery, while the smaller 19.2 kWh battery made 60 bhp and 110 Nm. Tata claimed that with the larger battery, the Tiago EV could hit 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds, while the smaller battery could do the same in 6.2 seconds.

 

To differentiate the Tiago EV from the ICE version, Tata gave it electric blue accents around the body and headlamps, in addition to a unique design for the 14-inch wheels. Tata offered the Tiago EV in five colours: Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Pristine White, Midnight Plum and Tropical Mist.  

 

The Tiago EV received over 10,000 bookings within two weeks of its launch, highlighting the growing acceptance of EVs in India.
