CARS24’s 2024 used car market report highlights the strong preference for SUVs and MPVs, as they cater to family needs, urban commutes, and highway travel. Their high ground clearance, modern features, and practicality continue to make them the preferred choice for second-hand car buyers in Hyderabad.

Top Selling Used SUVs and MPVs in Hyderabad in 2024

At CARS24, utility vehicles (SUVs and MUVs) are categorised under a single segment as ‘SUVs.’ The Ford EcoSport retained its position as the best-selling pre-owned SUVs in Hyderabad, followed by the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, both of which share the second position and remain highly popular among second-hand car buyers. The Tata Nexon, a growing favourite in the used car market, secured the third spot, while the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Kia Seltos complete the best-selling used SUVs and MPVs in Hyderabad in 2024.

Used automatic SUVs have seen a rise in demand in 2024, particularly in models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Tata Nexon, recording strong sales for the automatic variants. However, manual transmission remains the preferred choice for most second-hand car buyers in Hyderabad.

1. Ford EcoSport | 9% Used SUV Market Share in Hyderabad

The Ford EcoSport retained its position as Hyderabad’s most popular used SUV in 2024, as it was in 2023 as well. Despite a dip of 3% from 2023, second hand Ford Ecosport cars in Hyderabad secured a 9% market share in 2024. This is despite Ford’s exit from the Indian market, the Ecosport is the best selling used SUVs in India. Just goes to show how the compact SUV’s solid build quality, compact size, and strong engine performance reign superior thus contributing to its strong demand.

Second-hand Ford EcoSport SUVs were sold in greater numbers with its 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, as 62% of buyers opted for the same while 38% preferred the 1.5-litre petrol or 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine. The EcoSport’s 5-speed manual transmission remained the dominant choice, with 88% of used buyers opting for it, while 12% went for its dual-clutch and torque converter automatic gearbox versions.

2. Hyundai Creta | 8% Used SUV Market Share in Hyderabad

The Hyundai Creta bumped up in demand in Hyderabad’s second-hand SUV market in 2024. Gaining from 7% market share in 2023 to 8% market share in 2024, pre-owned Hyundai Creta cars in Hyderabad remain consistently popular. Known for its premium features, spacious cabin, and refined driving experience, the Creta remains a top pick among mid-size SUV buyers. Its strong resale value  along with Hyundai’s vast service network are added bonuses alongside the maker’s brand value. 

The reliable petrol and diesel engines powering the Creta contribute majorly to its appeal in the used car market. Among used Hyundai Cretas sold in 2024, 60% were petrol variants, while 40% were diesel-powered, showing a slight preference for the Creta’s various petrol engines it has had since 2015. Transmission choices remained largely manual-dominated, with 71% of used Creta buyers opting for them, while 29% purchased automatic models.

3. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga | 8% Used MPV Market Share in Hyderabad

Sharing second spot in this list is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that continues to be a strong choice for families and commercial buyers in Hyderabad. This is reflected in the 8% used MPV market share that it has retained from 2023 to 2024. Used Maruti Ertiga cars in Hyderabad are affordable, fuel efficient, and spacious making them one of the best-selling MPVs in the second-hand market. The Ertiga’s versatile seven-seater configuration at affordable prices, ensures its popularity, especially among commercial fleet operators..

Among used Ertigas sold in Hyderabad, 58% were demanded in the diesel variants sporting the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. 38% of buyers chose the proven petrol engine and 4% were CNG-equipped models. Frugality as well as reliability seems to be the theme in demand for used Ertiga MPVs in Hyderabad with a vast majority of 94% opting for the manual transmission, while only 6% chose the 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox trims.\

4. Tata Nexon | 7% Used SUV Market Share in Hyderabad

The Tata Nexon’s popularity keeps increasing every year. Used Tata Nexon cars in Hyderabad have emerged as a strong competitor in the pre-owned SUV market. It rose up from 5% in 2023 to 7% market share in 2024. The Nexon’s strongpoints include its robust safety ratings, feature-packed cabin, and fuel-efficient powertrain options that make it an attractive choice for buyers looking for a dependable compact SUV.

In 2024, 74% of used Tata Nexon buyers opted for the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine equipped variant, while 26% preferred the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel models. Modern turbocharged engines offer a mix of power and fuel-efficiency. Used Nexon SUVs in Hyderabad also saw a higher, 42% of buyers choosing the 6-speed automatic transmission but the 6-speed manual transmission still remains dominant as 58% buyers preferred the same.

5. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza | 5% Used SUV Market Share in Hyderabad

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is an attractive compact SUV that uses old-school boxy design for an SUV in a sub-4m footprint. Second hand Maruti Vitara Brezza cars in Hyderabad accounted for 5% of the used SUV market share in 2024, falling 2% since 2023. This is possibly due to the new Brezza (Maruti dropped the Vitara tag with the latest generation) still gaining popularity in the second hand market as the Vitara Brezza gets older. The Vitara Brezza boasts good fuel efficient engine options, affordable maintenance, and strong resale value contributing to its continued demand among pre-owned car buyers.

The first generation of the Vitara Brezza was only available with the 1.3-litre turbo-diesel engine from 2016 to 2020. Thus it doesn’t come as a surprise that 52% of pre-owned Vitara Brezza SUVs were demanded in diesel variants, while 48% were petrol-powered. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is very frugal and paired with a 5-speed manual transmission that 80% of buyers opted for. However, the AMT automatic along with the 4-speed torque converter automatic were the preferred choice for 20% of used Vitara Brezza buyers in Hyderabad.

6. Kia Seltos | 4% Used SUV Market Share in Hyderabad

The Kia Seltos rounds up the best-selling used SUVs in Hyderabad in 2024 having quickly established itself as a strong contender in the used SUV market. Used Kia Seltos cars in Hyderabad secured a 4% market share in 2024, and is popular for its contemporary design, feature-rich cabin, and multiple powertrain options. The Seltos has gained traction among used SUV buyers looking for a premium yet practical midsize SUV.

Among used Kia Seltos SUVs sold in Hyderabad in 2024, 63% were preferred in its petrol variants, while a strong 37% demanded the diesel models. Transmission choices for used Kia Seltos SUVs in Hyderabad remained largely manual-dominated, with 64% of buyers opting for the same. 36% chose the automatic versions, reflecting the rising popularity of the convenient-to-operate automatic transmission in busy and congested metros like Hyderabad.
