Best Selling Used SUVs and MPVs in Delhi in 2024

SUVs have seen a jump in popularity in recent years, with the trend continuing into the used car market as well. Used SUV sales climbed from just over 12% to almost 17% between 2022-2024. 

As per our used car sales report: Gears of Growth, the five best-selling used SUVs and MPVs in Delhi include two models that are discontinued in the market. Here are the best selling second hand SUVs and MPVs in Delhi in 2024, the biggest gainers and losers from previous years and why the best sellers remain a popular choice.  

Top Selling Used SUVs and MPVs in Delhi in 2024

Despite Ford’s exit from the Indian market, the Ford EcoSport continues to be the best selling second hand SUV in India, and Delhi resonates the same. The Hyundai Creta’s dominance in the new car space is echoed in the used car space as well, as it is Hyundai best selling used SUV in Delhi. 

Among MPVs, nothing comes close to the value and affordability of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the used car market, which particularly saw demand for its CNG variant. However, despite the 10-year-rule on diesel cars in Delhi, demand for pre owned diesel SUVs remained high in Delhi.

1. Ford EcoSport | 14% Used SUV & MPV Market Share in Delhi

From the EcoSport’s introduction in 2013 to its facelift in 2017, it has emerged as the best selling used SUV in Delhi for the second year in a row, accounting for 14% of SUV sales in 2024. As the first compact SUV in India, the Ford EcoSport has earned fans thanks to its novel styling, driving dynamics and smooth, powerful engines.

An overwhelming 77% of used Ford EcoSport buyers in Delhi preferred the diesel models over the petrol. Similarly, 93% of buyers opted for the manual transmission over the automatic despite its added convenience. While early EcoSports are well over 10 years old now, the model has certainly proved to be one of India’s most favourite compact SUVs in the used market. 

2. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza | 13% Used SUV & MPV Market Share in Delhi

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was the country’s largest auto manufacturer’s first foray into the compact SUV market. Maruti Suzuki nailed the formula from launch, with a package that offered space, frugality and practicality in a compact, well-styled package. The market share of used Vitara Brezza cars in Delhi just narrowly trails behind the leader at 13%. 

The Vitara Brezza went from being diesel-only at launch to being petrol-only at its facelift in 2022. There’s an overwhelming preference for diesel (94%) in the used market, thanks to its efficiency even in Delhi’s traffic. Only 6% of buyers opted for the newer petrol models. Similarly, our data shows that 92% of second hand Brezza buyers chose the manual transmission.

3. Hyundai Creta | 10% Used SUV & MPV Market Share in Delhi

The Hyundai Creta has struck the right chords with buyers for its comfort, features, road presence and practicality. Every timely update and evolution of the Creta has kept it relevant in a competitive market. The Creta has also made its mark in the used SUV market in Delhi, with a 10% share putting it third on this list. 

Our data shows there’s a 72% preference for diesel and a 28% preference for petrol when it comes to second hand Creta cars in Delhi. Automatic variants of the Creta also proved fairly popular, with 20% of Creta buyers opting for them. Cretas with manual transmissions still ruled the roost though, with 80% preference amongst pre owned Creta buyers.

4. Renault Duster | 8% Used SUV & MPV Market Share in Delhi

The Renault Duster’s share in the used SUV market in Delhi slipped from 12% in 2022 to 8% in 2024, as per our data. This is likely due to the Duster’s age fast approaching the 10/15-year cap on diesel/petrol cars in Delhi. 

That said, the Duster still remains a popular choice in Delhi for its unbeatable ride quality, efficiency and dominating stance. There are still good deals to be had on pre owned Duster cars in Delhi. 

Reflecting the popularity of the diesel engine, the numbers show 90% of second hand Duster buyers chose it in 2024, down from 96% the previous year. Considering Renault only added AMT versions later in the Duster’s lifecycle, only 5% of buyers opted for it in the used market. 

5. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga | 6% Used SUV & MPV Market Share in Delhi

Used Maruti Suzuki Ertiga cars in Delhi held a 6% market share, finding homes with buyers looking for a car for larger families. The Ertiga MPV has impressed with its packaging, offering seating for seven passengers in compact dimensions ideal for Delhi’s bustling roads. 

Highlighting how the family car buyer puts practicality first, the majority of 53% of used Ertiga buyers in Delhi still chose the older model with its strong diesel engine. 

Further, 28% of buyers chose the petrol Ertiga, up from 20% the previous year. There was an 18% uptake for the CNG model in the used market, also up from 14% in 2023. An overwhelming 99% of buyers chose used Ertigas with a manual transmission.

Conclusion

With the top five best selling used SUVs in Delhi in 2024 coming from four different manufacturers, we can see that all these vehicles delivered practicality, efficiency and reliability for the value-conscious buyer. 

The discontinued Ford EcoSport still maintained its hold on the used market, offering a sporty compact SUV experience on a budget. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta posted very similar numbers despite being in two different segments, for their frugal engines and good reliability. 

The Renault Duster, also discontinued, still attracted buyers for its rugged looks, comfort and efficiency. Lastly, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga earns its place on this list for being one of the best cars for families needing the extra space. 

Our data has also revealed that buyers still prefer diesel cars, when available and feasible within the NGT’s ban on diesel cars older than 10 years. With the NGT’s timeline extending to 15 years for petrol cars, there is also a gradual rise in preference for petrol. This is evidenced with the Ertiga’s and Duster’s increase in petrol uptake in the second hand car market in 2024.
