The used car market in Bangalore saw a significant demand in 2024, with Karnataka accounting for 10% of all used car sales in the country. Tech-savvy professionals and millennials prioritised affordable, compact and fuel-efficient used vehicles, with a rising trust noted in online platforms like CARS24.

Used sedans, in particular, fared well in Bangalore last year. As per CARS24’s used car sales report, the five best selling used sedans came from four different manufacturers, with the City leading the way with a 16% used sedan market share in Karnataka’s capital. 

In this article, we will take a closer look at the City and the rest of the sedans that made up the best sellers list, and the reasons behind their popularity.

Top Selling Used Sedans in Bangalore in 2024

Honda was the only manufacturer that managed to get two cars in the top five used best sellers list, with the City occupying the top spot and the Amaze in fifth. Sub-four-metre sedans didn’t fare as well as larger sedans from the mid-size segment.

Our report also highlights the fact that used petrol cars were preferred over their diesel (and/or CNG) counterparts, and used manual cars were similarly in higher demand compared to their automatic variants.

1. Honda City | 16% Used Sedan Market Share in Bangalore

The best selling used sedan in Bangalore in 2024 was the Honda City, and by a fair margin. It managed a 16% market share (among used sedans sold in the city), which is a substantial 5% more than the Hyundai Verna. The City’s appeal stems from its spacious interiors, providing ample legroom and comfort, which is particularly valued during Bangalore's frequent traffic congestions. 

Additionally, its fuel-efficient engines offer an economical choice for daily commuting. However, as per our data, the majority (91%) of used City buyers opted for the petrol engine variant, while 80% opted for a manual transmission-equipped used City. Add in the sedan’s reputation for reliability and low maintenance costs, and its best selling status in the pre owned market is no surprise.

2. Hyundai Verna | 11% Used Sedan Market Share in Bangalore

Occupying second spot on this list with an 11% market share is the Hyundai Verna. Its sleek exterior design, capable engine options, feature-rich interiors, and comfortable cabin were among the primary reasons behind buyers opting for second hand Hyundai Verna cars in Bangalore last year. 

In terms of engine preferences, our data reveals that 54% of used Verna buyers opted for the petrol variant. As for the transmission preference, 87% opted for the manual gearbox-equipped Verna, despite the auto’s convenience in a traffic-heavy city like Bangalore.

3. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire | 11% Used Sedan Market Share in Bangalore

Matching the Hyundai Verna with an 11% market share, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire ended the year as the best selling used compact sedan in Bangalore. Its compact dimensions make it well-suited for navigating the city's crowded streets, while old Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire cars in Bangalore were sought out for their efficient fuel consumption. 

Our data indicates that 56% opted for the petrol variant of the used Swift Dzire, with only 1% of buyers opting for the automatic variant. On the whole, the Swift Dzire comes across as a practical compact sedan with a comfortable cabin, efficient engines and, most importantly, affordability, which was what made it highly appealing to used car buyers in Bangalore.

4. Skoda Rapid | 6% Used Sedan Market Share in Bangalore

Pre owned Skoda Rapid cars in Bangalore made up 6% of the used sedan market in the city in 2024. Its solid construction, responsive handling, and good ride quality were key traits that appealed to used car buyers.

While the Skoda Rapid’s interiors may not be the industry standard in terms of quality and features, unlike some of its competitors, the Rapid’s cabin can still be considered functional and easy to live with. 

As for engine options, the Rapid gets petrol and diesel variants, but buyers preferred the used diesel option, with only 46% opting for the petrol variant. In terms of the preferred transmission option, used Rapids with manual gearboxes accounted for 80% of its sales in Bangalore last year.

5. Honda Amaze | 5% Used Sedan Market Share in Bangalore

With a 5% market share among used sedans sold in Bangalore last year, the Honda Amaze is one of only two compact sedans on this list. Used Honda Amaze cars in Bangalore were appealing thanks to their compact size and efficient performance. Its easy maneuverability is a significant advantage in Bangalore's heavy traffic conditions. 

According to CARS24’s internal data, 60% of buyers preferred the petrol variant of the used Amaze, while 83% opted for a manual transmission-equipped Amaze, despite the convenience afforded by the automatic gearbox. Aside from that, the Amaze offers a comfortable cabin with thoughtful features and ample space, all of which enhances the driving and ownership experience.

The Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Skoda Rapid, and Honda Amaze each brought unique strengths to the table, catering to the diverse needs of Bangalore's car buyers.
