Honda cars are synonymous with reliability, and in 2024, the Japanese car maker held an 8.5% market share in the used car market. The most popular model was the City, with the Amaze and Jazz coming in second and third, respectively.
It is interesting to note that even Honda models older than 10 years continue to garner attention in the used car market. According to the internal data of CARS24, used car sales in 2024 outnumbered new car sales as well. Here’s a look at the best selling Hondas that dominated the used car market in 2024.

The Honda City was the best selling used sedan in India, outperforming its smaller sibling, the Amaze and very popular Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The Jazz continues to be a much loved Japanese hatchback in the used market.
Generally, buyers of used Honda models have a strong preference for their petrol models. While used manual Hondas claim the lion’s share of the brand’s sales in the used car market.

The City has always been the bestseller for Honda Cars India. That remains the case for a used Honda City as well with it grabbing a 43% market share among all used Honda cars sold in 2024. This made the Honda City the best selling used sedan in India last year, beating cheaper and more compact rivals, but also all SUVs as well.

All generations of the Honda City feature a 1.5 litre, naturally aspirated, petrol engine, with each subsequent generation featuring updates. The petrol engine has always been available with a manual and an automatic transmission. In the fourth generation model, the Honda City got a diesel engine too, and it was available in the fifth generation model as well for a few years.
However, with a diesel, there is only the option of a manual transmission. Noticeably, 83% of used City buyers opted for the petrol and 17% chose diesel. The transmission split was also similar with 83% buyers opting for a manual transmission and 17% choosing a used automatic.

The decision between manual and automatic was clearer with 90% buyers opting for the manual and only 10% opting for the convenience of an automatic.
